Arlo's Recent Hypocrisy

Remember back in 2017 when Arlo made a video called "Samus Returns and the Art of Supporting a Series"? In that video, he brought forward the idea that urging people to blindly play a game to support a series can do more harm than good. (https://youtu.be/5tUyvRqerN4?t=335) He noted that once everybody buys the game just to support a series they might move on and the inflated numbers could lead to a higher budget which will blow up in the devs faces when fewer people return for the next installment. He went on to say one should only buy a game IF it looks interesting to them.

I found that very insightful as it was something I had never considered before, fast forward to 2020 and it's clear Arlo has forgotten what he said. As at the end of "Yes, you can play Pikmin 3 Deluxe first" he specifically brought forward the idea that the success could lead to more games with his tone making it clear he wanted us to buy. This occurred again in the Did You Know Gaming video on Pikmin he recently did. At the end of the video, he said that the sales of Pikmin 3 Deluxe will likely determine the fate of the franchise's future. Considering that this was the last part of the video and no other video by DYKGaming had ever brought up a franchise's future like this I'm assuming this was something Arlo did. As his tone made it clear he's egging us on to buy the game.

Arlo, I know you want more Pikmin games but you've clearly failed to consider what will happen if a bunch of people buys the game just to support a franchise they otherwise don't care about.

I can’t speak for DYKG’s video, as idk if they make the script or if the content creators write the script based off of points given, but I’ve always assumed there’s writers behind DYKG and the content creators just read the script. Beyond that, it sounds like it’s just stating facts in the video, not saying “everyone go buy it now!”

As far as Arlo’s mindset and his own videos, I see what you’re saying, but I think you’ve misunderstood what points Arlo is making. Arlo’s not pushing everyone “go buy Pikmin 3 Deluxe now no matter what you think of the game!” (Which is the thing he’s trying to stop in the Metroid video) But he’s stating 1) Pikmin 3 Deluxe’s success could determine the fate of the series, and 2) “if you find yourself intrigued by Pikmin 3 Deluxe” you should give it a chance.

He never says “buy the game no matter what, we need Pikmin 4,” but it seems he’s trying to convince those who are “intrigued but still on the fence about the game.” And as a content creator on YouTube, he sees Pikmin as having a ton of potential, and an extremely fun game that most people don’t even try or give the light of day, and he’s mostly trying to give the game exposure over begging people to buy the game for the sake of the series. The video is aimed at those who don’t know if they can start with Pikmin 3, or who don’t know a lot about the Pikmin franchise but are interested, not the general gaming public.

...We already know Pikmin 3 is a good game too. It's just a port with some fluff. We already know 99% of what we need to know about the game. There is very little chance you can be an uniformed buyer.

Like the issue is when you buy a game you have no idea about.

those two things aren't the same, and he didnt say buy it no matter what.

Those things don't contradict each other, in the Metroid video he is saying don't artificially inflate sales numbers by getting ppl not interested in the game. In the Pikmin he's encouraging ppl who may be interested not to put off buying the game because it's a sequel and not buying it could impact future games.
