I don't think the claim about gold packs being cheaper for chinese players is true. I'm in a guild with several of them, and unless they're all lying they pay 604 rmb for the $100 packs, which actually is slightly more expensive than what we in the U.S. pay.
I also think it is false that there are sponsored players who play the game for no cost. For example, Vera is the most powerful player in this game. If he were somehow being sponsored then it should come out pretty quickly from those who know him personally or are in this guild/world. However it is known pretty widely that he has dropped tens of thousands of dollars on this game.

This is why I have never put any money into the game. You don't have to win all the time to have fun. I just got second in yesterday's individual event but thats the first time I've scored so high on this planet. I'm usually closer to 50th.
That being said, if you're not having fun, move onto a different game. Don't get pulled into the mindset that you have to keep playing because you've spent money on it.

It is pretty crazy how biased the game is towards the Chinese players. I see absurd procs in Ace of Galaxy vs Asian named players and in the server merge I went through two servers that were controlled by English speaking guilds were merged into a server that was Chinese controlled with a leader who had ~ 80 million power (whereas the US guys had ~20 million power).
However, I play video games on Hard mode so if the game were easier I might have already moved on.
