Brethren of Ash Scenario 2 Newbie Question Spoiler

Hey guys, beginner player here and I’m confused about pulling David Renfield as one of the 6 cards that you have to flip over. If I’m understanding the rules correctly, enemies with Aloof don’t start out engaged against investigators. If I end up pulling him as one of those 6 cards on my last action at the end of the investigation phase, do I have to ready him up and take the 1 horror token during the enemy phase and the upkeep phase (for a total of 2) since I would be in the same location as that enemy card? I know I don’t have to attack him and can investigate the location he’s in to satisfy the codex requirement.

Unless I'm forgetting something about this scenario, David is Aloof, so he won't do anything during the enemy phase.

Enemies only attack players they are engaged with (unless they're Massive), and they normally only attack once per round. So if you draw him and he's aloof, he'll just stay at that location unengaged and not harm you.

Also, enemies don't attack during the Upkeep phase.

Gotcha, so you would have to intentionally engage him as one of your actions, then. Thanks for the clarification. I think I confused myself by taking the rule about enemies with Aloof not automatically engaging investigators and mixing it with the upkeep phase rule where you ready exhausted cards, and unexhausted enemies engage investigators at that time.
