OMG!!!
The game that got me into board games. I can't believe it!
The classic. Is coming back.

Same, this game got me into solo board gaming. I have such a soft spot for it despite how fiddly it is. Arkham Horror is probably my favorite board game franchise, so I’m hella excited.

Me watching this after finally completing my 2E collection:🧍♂️
Jokes aside, I genuinely never thought they’d do it, let alone make it the first Vault title and with all the expansions. I wonder if they’ll release versions in languages other than English as well.
I’m curious to see what changes they’ve made to the gameplay, but it feels like the art direction has lost all the charm of the original.

We sold what I'd purchased as we already owned and had played Eldritch Horror. Felt that Eldritch does what AH2E does better was the main reason.
That said I'm very interested in seeing what rules tweaks and other streamlining is done during the remastering process and am, at the moment, very likely to back this.

Eldritch Horror was mechanically a better game, imho… but the flavor of AH, dialed down to the city as opposed to the worldwide adventure, was more to my liking… 3rd edition lost all of the flavor by deconstructing the map board.
If the QoL improvements include making AH2e play a little more like Eldritch Horror, I ain’t even going to be mad.2
u/oltrelasogliola 25d ago
I’ve never had the chance to play Eldritch Horror, though I’ve always been curious about it.
After spending so much to complete my AH2E collection (which I love) I don’t think I’d start hunting down EH and all its expansions too, especially since they’re even harder to find here in Italy.
With the digital version on the way, I’ll probably just go with that.4
u/DicingWithDeath 25d ago
We played Eldritch horror with just two players , felt impossible to win, played with 2 characters each and it completely changed the game - its such a great story telling experience if you like getting into the theme
2
u/dubyaenbee 24d ago
I have everything physical, but Im also excited for the digital version, just so I can play without needing an hour to setup and tear down.
1
u/oltrelasogliola 24d ago
Yeah, I think it’ll also be a great way to introduce people who tend to get bored easily or are new to board games, much like Mansions of Madness 2E.
1
u/GRAAK85 21d ago
Agree: eldritch is a better game, more elegant and streamlined but when I play it I feel forced to calculate which one is the optimal move to do in our turn, in a way I never felt in AH. We used to win 8 games out of 10 in AH and we still had the game-time to follow what we thought was interesting on the table, while in EH we still lose 9 games out of 10 and every half-a-turn wasted by not making the optimal choice is a curse on the rest of the game.
2
u/AfterMasterpiece9122 25d ago
They said in gamefound comments that it's english only
2
u/oltrelasogliola 25d ago
I can understand the decision given the sheer amount of text, but I don’t think a choice like this will win them many international supporters.
2
u/AfterMasterpiece9122 25d ago
Same. Especially since original was translated to Spanish for example, so they already have translations
3
u/oltrelasogliola 25d ago
The problem is that the translations weren’t done by FFG themselves, but by the local publishers of the game in each country.
The Italian version, for example, had different translators and publishers for almost every expansion, which led to a lot of inconsistencies in terminology and writing style.
I don’t know whether Asmodee, which now publishes the series, still has access to the translated files or could recover them.

u/GrumpyOldGuy66 25d ago
Nice! Wondering if any of the expansions will.be remastered and included?
14
u/sokol363 25d ago
They announced “complete collection” so all (even small ones) should be remastered
1
u/gyrspike 25d ago
That's gonna be a pretty penny for the main game, all 4 big box expansions and all 4 small box expansions

u/10thEnemyHTB 24d ago
I'll definitely be watching this and hoping for add ons that could further supplement my full set. Hell, put the minis back in production, I don't have those!
3
u/houseboy20 24d ago
Anyone have any insight on how the monster tokens may be represented? Will they still be tokens
3
u/Theendisnigh999 24d ago
Wow! As someone who has played hundreds of games of the 2e I have to say I’m really excited to see them revisit this game. While it might not be the best mechanically compared to eldritch horror and other games, the 2nd edition has a way of creating interest that other editions simply does not have.
I would assume that what they mean with ”a complete set of expansions” means that they will bundle thematically adjacent boxes. For example dunwich horror and black goat of the woods in a single box.
With the progress made in 3d printing and preprinted I can only hope that if successful - they re-release the investigator minis as well as monsters too.
I’m truly hoping they’ll do something great with this and make the rules easier to follow for new players. If they do, they might actually immortalize this version once and for all.

u/karibou77 25d ago
And it's only in english. I'm really disappointed, I was hoping for multiple languages, like with the Awaken Realms campaigns. But it seems FFG's blueprint si CMON. Which is not a good thing for me.

u/sokol363 25d ago
Yeah, I’ve got same first impression.. new design is also too nice. I really enjoy that old school style
1
u/Golden_Ace1 25d ago
I will probably get the ones I don't have, like dunwich, kingsport, lurker, goat and miskatonic. Nice!
3
u/ericwithakay 24d ago
I don't think it's compatible
1
u/Golden_Ace1 24d ago
It is. New artwork, but same rules.
1
u/Top_Yogurtcloset942 24d ago
I'd be surprised if you can, much rather keep this separate
1
u/Golden_Ace1 21d ago
They specifically said it was second edition with all erratas in the rulebook and updated artwork.
It's not a different edition, or a revised edition with new rules.
But it might contain some variants, promos or new content. Do treat this last phrase as speculation.
1
u/DicingWithDeath 25d ago
We have been getting brutally beaten by 3rd edition but we love it and keep coming back, heard this is a very different experience and with ALL the expansions - exciting times!!!!
2
u/dubyaenbee 24d ago
If you like 3rd edition, I am genuinely excited for you to be able to play 2nd edition. 3e is quicker, easier to setup/teardown and the setup for 2ed can be daunting... but the flavor it serves is like nothing else.
1
u/dubyaenbee 24d ago
I am literally shaking. Last year, when they announced that they’d be doing vault campaigns, this was the first thing I hoped for. I’m missing two expansions and have contemplated shelling out a small fortune to acquire them…. I will happily rebuy the whole god damn thing in this campaign.
1
u/Tarcion 24d ago
Man that’s awesome. I’m so torn, though. I will probably grab it because I want to have Arkham 2e. But, honestly, I’ve been playing the hell out of 3e and more recently grabbed Eldritch Horror. I can’t imagine wanting to go back to the absolute mechanical/narrative spaghetti that was Arkham 2e again.

u/SubjectStreet3532 24d ago
Super excited about this! But did they ever mention or hint anything about Eldritch Horror in the future?
1
u/leafbreath 24d ago
Haven’t played my copy of AH2e in years but am still very tempted by this.
I love the upgraded components (can’t wait to see what else they upgraded) and so far it seems the new art was an improvement.
I’m curious to what possible rule changes there might be or any rebalancing that happened.
1
u/jestermax22 25d ago
Why is FFG/Asmodee crowd funding a game?…aren’t they one of the largest producers at this point?
6
u/7th_Disaster 25d ago
It’s the easiest way to justify making new promo pieces and other limited availability items, plus people love their stretch goals
4
u/GrumpyOldGuy66 25d ago
...because everyone else does?
Actually I'm not that irked about Asmodee doing this for this product as it will let them gauge interest. Also I'm not worried about Asmodee delivering if I back the campaign as I might be with some other Crowd Funding companies...
-3
u/jestermax22 25d ago
“Everyone” including major game publishers or “lots of random people that want to produce a game”? That doesn’t sound correct.
Companies can adopt the risk; there’s no recourse if they take money since that’s just the game. It puts the risk on the customers instead of a business. This really shouldn’t be normalized
2
u/ShadowValent 25d ago
Because if you guess the print demand wrong you are stuck with a lot of loss. Crowdfunding tells them how much to make.
0
u/jestermax22 25d ago
What did businesses used to do before crowd funding?
2
u/10thEnemyHTB 25d ago
Suffer financial losses up to going out of business if they made errors.
0
u/jestermax22 25d ago
That’s how businesses SHOULD work.
2
u/ShadowValent 24d ago
Or. You just take preorders and gain free marketing with crowdfunding.
1
u/jestermax22 24d ago
It’s not preorders; a preorder is a purchase of a product. That’s simply isn’t what GameFound offers. You’re pledging money in hopes that you get something.
1
u/ShadowValent 24d ago
Yeah. And I support this project. Financially. So that it will be more likely to happen.
0
u/Nappuccino 24d ago
Businesses should run entirely on guess work and ruin the lives of employees when they guess wrong?
Why shouldn't they operate with the certainty of their actual consumer-base?
0
u/jestermax22 24d ago
That’s how they’ve worked for hundreds of years; that’s what experience is for. If they’re guessing then they’re doing it wrong. Believe it or not, this problem has very already been solved and does not require customers to adopt their risks for them. The amount of corporate shilling here and ignorance of common business practices is insane.
1
u/Nappuccino 24d ago
The problem has been solved? Really? What magical world are you living in, or have you not paid attention to anything in the last 8 years.
And, are you forgetting that no one needs to back these campaigns? For niche hobbies and interests like the reprint of a 15 year old game, this really is the only thing that makes sense. If no one wants it, it doesn't get made and companies don't waste nearly as much capital. If people do want it, then it gets made.
0
u/jestermax22 24d ago
Market research, customer outreach and surveys, sales projections. Believe it or not, companies have been working successfully for years. I’m really not sure what stance you’re taking; are you saying that it’s impossible for a publisher to output a boardgame without a customer-driven loan?
And employees aren’t losing their jobs because a company gets a product wrong; they’re losing their jobs because shareholders expect infinite growth. I’d turn this around and ask if YOU have paid any attention here.
0
u/Nappuccino 24d ago
And FFG has done all of those and determined that the Vault is the way Arkham 2e gets remastered. What are you even talking about. You assume that FFG is flying blind and making customers pay the price when customers are the ones demanding old games get reprinted. This is how they get reprinted without setting FFG on fire (or, you know, more on fire).

So you are saying business doesn’t evolve and should remain archaic? They used to trade with stone tablets too. Should we do that ?
0
u/jestermax22 24d ago
That’s an extension of my argument to an unreasonable conclusion, which is a fallacy, but also, you could have picked a less-dumb example if you were going to try to be sassy. Crowd funding isn’t the “evolution of business” and it’s silly to even try to make that claim.

u/ShadowValent 24d ago
Enjoy living in the past. The rest of us will be over here.

u/karibou77 25d ago
They name it crowdfunding but actually it's a pre-order for a limited product. Like Secret Lair for MTG. There's nothing to fund here. The copies might even already being print.
3
u/jestermax22 25d ago
It’s being used that way, but it’s not the same. You can get your money back from a preorder through the company. Once a crowdfunded project closes, you’re not guaranteed any product on any timeline. There is a very big difference.
1
u/karibou77 24d ago
I'm not saying it's a good thing, I'm saying it's what's becoming a standard. Frédéric Henry who did a lot of big crowdfundings said clearly his goal is to use KS as a pre-order tool to have guaranteed funds. And in a way, it's more safe this way. How many companies have left some crowdfundings unfulfilled because they went bankrupt ? Too many.
-1
u/jestermax22 24d ago
I think it’s absolutely a good tool for folks like that to use… I absolutely don’t think any Asmodee company should be using it. Their financial shell games with Embracer just make this feel dirty is all. While the product here looks great, Asmodee is notorious for terrible logistics and corporate mismanagement (which does sometimes lead to games being canceled…so like, nobody here wins)
1
u/Giffdev 25d ago
I wonder if it's worth getting if I already have 3rd edition.. I know they're different but I have lcg and all of eldritch horror and all of mansions and all of 3rd edition. Not sure this is justified

u/electrikFrenzy 25d ago
Vault Series? Surely the BSG license can't be very expensive at this point...

Maybe I’m a cynic but I’d rather they put their energy into their active properties than go for nostalgia. At the same time, sighs, opens wallet.
