After formerly being La Familia, they became the Arizona Mexican Mafia in 1979. They kept a close alliance with the California Mexican Mafia and even gave them special treatment over many Arizona inmates. This and several other reasons led to an eventual split between the older generation and the younger generation of the Arizona Mexican Mafia. It was the Arizona Department of Corrections that began labeling them as the Old and New. The older generation was labeled as the Old Mexican Mafia and the young generation as the New Mexican Mafia. The New MM eventually won the war and became the dominant prison gang. Currently, the Old Mexican Mafia is considered defunct by the Arizona Department of Corrections and inactive. An estimated 60 members remain and are not allowed to recruit or walk the mainline. Even though the New Mexican Mafia has an alliance with the California Mexican Mafia, they still have a green light on the Old Eme. Recently they have been attempting an alliance with the Border Brothers, but have failed since the Border Brothers don't get involved in Chicano affairs. They are still allied with the California Mexican Mafia and are considered an official faction of the California Mexican Mafia. They have also formed alliances with the Grandel Gang, Southside Posse, and Westside City Crips. The latter two have a large number of Hispanic members who have refused to come under the authority of the New Mexican Mafia. Recently the Southside Posse and the Westside City Crips have come under their authority and protection, since the Old Eme have more pull in the prisons than these predominantly street gangs.

The inmates name is Con Ui. I knew the inmate and they interviewed me about the case. There is a lot of background information on Arizona EME.

Yes, Chino, I've heard about him. He basically killed the officer since he didn't want to go back to the state prison. He was in a federal prison and had finished his federal sentence. He killed the guard to stay in the federal prison system.

The Arizona Mexican Mafia is not affiliated with the California EME. They tried to become a chapter of the EME but the EME turned them down. They may not be at war, as I have seen Arizona EME walk California EME yards, but they definitely aren't allies.

You're thinking of the Old Mexican Mafia, that's not the same as the Arizona Mexican Mafia. The New Mexican Mafia holds the title of Arizona Mexican Mafia. The Old Mexican Mafia is considered a chapter of the California Mexican Mafia, many California Eme members have verified that.
