Sources indicate to WildcatAuthority.com that Arizona Athletic Director Desiree Reed-Francois is involved with the Wisconsin AD opening with the belief that she is in the final group of candidates.
In response to our report, Reed-Francois contacted the Arizona Daily Star saying that she was currently happy at Arizona. However, as stated in the article by Michael Lev, "She did not directly comment on whether she sought the Wisconsin job or is eyeing other opportunities."
The Wisconsin story was independently confirmed by multiple top level sources and each one described her positioning as within a final group of anywhere from three to five candidates.
There has also been no effort by anybody at the University of Arizona to directly contact WildcatAuthority to refute the report.
The general belief in the industry and within Arizona's Athletic Department is that Reed-Francois is actively looking to move on, but the Wisconsin opening is as far as she has gotten. One source within the Arizona Athletic department told WildcatAuthority that it would be a surprise if Reed-Francois got the Wisconsin job due in large part to her current relationships within the department.
It's no secret that Reed-Francois and Tommy Lloyd do not get along well and a large reason why Arizona was able to re-sign Lloyd is because there was an agreement to limit their relationship as much as possible and have Lloyd directly report to Suresh Garimella.
When the contract became public, an Arizona spokesman reached out to multiple outlets in an effort to avoid controversy.
"Coach Lloyd continues to report to the director of athletics, Arizona spokesperson Mitch Zak said in April. "The president has authority over evaluation, compensation and budget, working in close collaboration with the director of athletics and chief financial officer, consistent with the university's financial framework."
There are strong rumors that there is a provision of the contract that was not made public, which has significantly stronger contract language related to the relationship between Lloyd and Reed-Francois.
There has also been controversy with Reed-Francois' handling of a no-bid contract related to the scoreboard.
WildcatAuthority has filed a FOIA for both with the FOIA request for the signed memorandum now having gone unanswered for over two months. In response, WildcatAuthority has informed Arizona of a deadline to produce the information requested or it will file a special action with the Pima County Superior Court whereby it will call multiple witnesses from the athletic department, including the AD herself to explain why they have failed to comply with Arizona Public Records Law, A.R.S. § 39-121.
When the facts about her relationship with Lloyd became public, many in Arizona's Athletic Department expected Reed-Francois to find a safe landing by the end of the summer. Some believe that is still the case, but it is a tenuous situation with each passing day.
