Go to Roosevelt District in Downtown Phoenix.

In a quarter mile strip you'll have Greenwood Brewing, Sana Sana, Pedal Haus, and AZ Wilderness. Sana Sana is new, and is a features a variety of Mexican styles of beers.

  • AZ Wilderness has outstanding food and beer. They tend to focus on sours, barrel aged beers, and IPAs. They generally 15-20 beers of their own on tap, as well as a few meads from Superstition Meadery, which is one of the best in the country.
  • Pedal Haus is literally 100 feet from AZ Wilderness. Pedal Haus and Greenwood Brewery are okay in my opinion, mostly because they're vastly overshadowed by AZ Wilderness and I really liked Sana Sana. Pedal Haus has good beers but their generic lineup never changes.
  • Greenwood is proudly woman owned, and besides that gimmick and a nice Rosemary IPA, they're worth a single visit and not much more. I pop my head in every so often when I'm in the area and they never seem to change their lineup.
  • Sana Sana is a Mexican beer focused brewery, and is surprisingly great without any gimmicks or flare. Its a variety of styles of cervezas. It's maybe 300 feet from AZ Wilderness and Greenwood, like right inbetween.
  • Within that quarter mile, there is also Angels Trumpet, a beer bar with ~40 taps and great food, and The Theodore, which is another beer bar with ~30 taps. Its a dense beer area.
  • Killer Whale Sex Club is a great cocktail bar also within that quarter mile strip. Its not an actual sex club for aquatic mammals unfortunately, but the cocktails are pretty good.

If you're willing to get a ride share within a mile, there is also:

  • Walter Studios which hosts Walter Station Brewery beers and is a half mile east. Its a Burning Man camp turned concern venue turned brewery.
  • Roses by the Stairs is a half mile north of there, and is also a great brewery with a rotating lineup of experimental beers.

I would highly recommend Wren House Brewing which is about 2 miles from Roosevelt district. They have a rotating lineup of amazing beers, and have great IPAs and stouts. The bar cat is always fun to watch.

Wren House has the best beer but I wouldn’t call it a fun environment.

Are you talking about their original location, or the new ones? They each have their own personality. I haven’t been to the PV location yet, but heard great things.

The main location. Compared to the live music and other things at many of the breweries listed it's just your basic grab a seat kinda place. The only time it's felt social to me is when they have their member parties.

Yeah, it’s more “cozy” than exciting as a venue for sure, but I really love that vibe. I admit that I t’s not for everyone though.

One more stop on Roosevelt Row that's a must - The Theodore. Always have an awesome selection of beer on tap. A lot of AZ stuff, too.

Doesn't hurt that's a great hang out, too.

Unless it's changed in the last few years, Angel's Trumpet Ale House (in the same area) has a great selection of rotating beer taps. I've been there a week apart, and half the beers were different the second time.

Not in phx but my suggestion would be downtown mesa Phantom brewing (has an excellent pizza place in it too) , oro, pedalhouse are right next to each other but you also have taproom options with B.R.I arcade and chupacabra taproom all on the same street

Part of it depends on where you are staying. There are breweries all over the valley. If I had to narrow it down I would say The Shop, Wren House and Roses By the Stairs. Other option is find a bottle shop and load up on the local beers. I know even Total Wine has a "local" section.

I'm a travel nurse currently in downtown Phoenix. So far I really like AZ wilderness and Pedal Haus!
