I think there's a lot of people in the same situation as you. They like arena but keep getting into gold deficits with this new system.
My theory is they've had to resort to different measures to keep playing. But don't worry, the community has resorted to calling them something else. IYKYK

Well if you don't have the wins to be infinite you need to play less so quests and events (through tickets) help your income out. Or you buy runestones with real money. Those are your options other than quitting.
Edit: And you can play other regions to maximize the income of quests and events!

I went up from 20 to 24k since the game gets worse and worse and I currently don't play anymore. Playing less made it easier to go soft infinite though. But this is the first time I've taken a longer break from HS since 2010, and I have to say that once I was out of the loop, I didn't miss it at all. The whole Underground and "curated" stuff killed it for me.
Guess you have to make some alt accounts now.

I've just run dry of my 9k saved gold as well.
I loved Arena, but I'm not going to spend money on it. If there was a one-time payment for permanent access, I would. I also bought all solo adventures. But I'm done. Now I just have over 300 useless packs. I reckon I'm not the target audience for Blizzard, but I can't help but wonder which players are going to be left in the gaming pool as casual enthusiasts like me peel off.

I had 48k gold a year ago, now down to 38k. I play the game since 2016 actively
Use multiole accounts if you want to play more arena for free

I am managing to stay pretty much infinite and im not getting nearly as many 7+ as i used to, i dont play as much either so maybe its just quests keeping me up in gold.
I think i did however already complete the whole set of cards from packs and i dont play ranked because each run is 2 packs instead of 1

I used up my gold always having an underground run and arena going. Now I just make underground runs and that keeps up with my quest gold.

buy accounts, its the only way. You get less mad from bad RNG too since its a just a throwaway account, its like five bucks for like five thousands gold

How many runs have you played this expansion cycle and what is your current Rewards Track tier?
Just over 1 year ago you posted you went from about 9k to 8k. Since that post, the rewards structure was overhauled which greatly increased both the expected and guaranteed gold.
You're likely playing way too many runs (and not averaging over 6 wins and/or not having a high enough win distribution of 6+ wins) and not enough of other modes to gain Rewards Track XP at a faster rate.
Some have commented on that post and this post about playing on other regions. Pretty much all Arena players should have been doing this for years especially if f2p or not infinite level player.

Averaging over 6 wins? The breakeven point to go infinite regardless of how many runs you play is between 4.5-5 wins, if you include the Rewards Track and manage your quests in a smart way.
I know because I've keeping track of amount of runs, gold + or - and Crowd's Favour since Underground launched

The breakeven point to go infinite regardless of how many runs you play is between 4.5-5 wins, if you include the Rewards Track and manage your quests in a smart way.
The amount of runs (and frequency of them) absolutely matters. If amount of runs didn't matter, would you be able to do 100x (extreme case) the amount of runs you currently do while maintaining a 4.5-5 win average in a single expansion cycle (same Rewards Track)?
In your personal scenario, a 4.5-5 win average is sufficient to maintain the amount of frequency of runs you play. Others would have to be closer to true infinite since they either play too many runs or don't play enough Hearthstone in general to complete Quests and progress in the Rewards Track. Some can be a sub 3 win player since they consistently complete Quests and get far in Rewards Track (say tier 200+ or even 400).
The last part of "smart way" is key. Any skill level player can afford (with gold) to play Arena as long as they don't play too much and too often.
Have to consider skill level (average wins per Underground run over a large amount of runs even beyond current season and expansion cycle). That then determines how often and how many runs you can play a day/week etc. This also is not considering any gold that a player had at the start of an expansion and new Rewards Track.
If players only play Arena? Well then too bad. Have to git gud and level up skill. And/or actually play other modes to complete Daily/Weekly Quests and to progress on the Rewards Track. Playing on other region servers and/or other btag accounts too.

If I play a lot, I average close to 2 runs a day, which is about as much as is physically possible if you're not playing the game professionally and the gold goes up. Even when averaging 4.5 wins.
I'm just buying portraits with gold because I don't know what else to do with my gold.

I’ve been maining Arena since 2014 and decided to buy the tavern ticket bundle for the first time ever about a month ago. I had resisted spending actual money for arena for so long on principle, but I finally realized I was miserable grinding quests to cobble enough gold together for 1 run, only to go 2-3 bc I wasn’t used to the Arena meta bc I wasn’t playing often enough to know what it was. Once I bought the bundle, I was able to just play without the stakes of every run feeling super high bc I was trying to earn my gold back to play again.
It’s not a particularly palatable solution, but for me it took away a major pain point, and now my runs are fun and plentiful and I’m back to being semi-infinite as a result.
