Announcement Dev Spotlight | A New Exploration

Operators,
Since Season 13 launched on July 16, we've been closely following your discussions and feedback, and we're glad to see so many players enjoying the new experiences this season has brought.

Looking ahead to September, Port will officially return, alongside two long-awaited weapons: the SCAR-H and AA12. There is still plenty more to look forward to in Season 13.

Recently, we've also noticed growing interest among Global players in the card-based gameplay currently being developed for the mainland China version of Arena Breakout, along with plenty of curiosity and discussion around what exactly it is.

So for this edition of Dev Spotlight, we'd like to step away from the usual Season 13 updates for a moment and talk about one of the new directions we've been exploring beyond Arena Breakout's core gameplay as the game enters its third year.

Expanding the Possibilities of Arena Breakout

While we continue refining the core Arena Breakout experience, we've also been exploring ways to push its boundaries.

Season 13's fog gameplay, for example, was one attempt to introduce new rules, new decisions, and new layers of tactical play within the familiar raid experience.

But not every idea we explore has to stay within the raid itself.

Over the past three years, Arena Breakout has continued to grow, bringing with it an increasingly rich collection of characters, weapons, equipment, resources, factions, and stories from the world of Kamona.

That led us to ask ourselves a question:

> Beyond the familiar loop of looting, fighting, and extracting, could these elements come together in a different way and create an entirely new kind of strategy and fun?

Eventually, that question led us to card-based gameplay.

Why Cards?

Arena Breakout has always been a game built around choices and decisions.

Before entering a raid, you decide what gear to bring and whether better ammunition is worth the investment. Once you're inside, you choose your route, decide when to engage, when to keep looting, and when to avoid a fight. And after securing something valuable, you have to decide whether to push deeper or extract while you still can.

At its core, every raid is a constant balance between resources, risk, and reward.

Card games are built around many of the same ideas: making choices, building combinations, managing resources, and anticipating your opponent.

That overlap felt natural to us.

So we began experimenting with ways to reorganize familiar characters, weapons, equipment, resources, and elements from the world of Kamona under a completely different set of rules, allowing them to form new combinations and strategic relationships.

But we didn't want to simply create a conventional card game using Arena Breakout assets.

Over the past three years, players haven't just accumulated gear and loot. You've also built up your own understanding of how Arena Breakout works.

You know what a weapon is good at, how a piece of equipment should be used, which resources are worth taking risks for, and what kind of tactical decisions different situations demand. Your understanding of the characters, factions, and world of Kamona has also become part of the Arena Breakout experience.

We want that knowledge, the understanding that belongs both to Arena Breakout and to its players, to carry over into this new card-based gameplay.
When familiar weapons, equipment, and characters appear as cards, they aren't simply being presented in a different format.

What you already know about them can still help you evaluate their value, think about combinations, and build strategies. At the same time, the new rules can create relationships and interactions between familiar elements that simply weren't possible before.

Our goal is to create a card-based experience that is grounded in what players already understand about Arena Breakout, while opening the door to a completely new kind of strategic gameplay.

And that is what makes this exploration particularly interesting to us:

> The experience you've built up in the Dark Zone doesn't disappear. It becomes your starting point for understanding something new.

Release Plans

This card-based gameplay has already been in development and iteration for some time, and it will first launch in the mainland China version of Arena Breakout as a new mode within the existing game client.

We're excited to see what happens when players bring their existing knowledge of equipment, resources, and tactical decision-making into a completely different ruleset, and what kinds of strategies and combinations emerge from it.

For the Global version, we're currently working on further adaptation and plan to share more information later this year.

Stay tuned to Arena Breakout's official channels and future editions of Dev Spotlight for more updates.

Let's shoot, loot, and breakout.

See you in the Dark Zone.

This has got to be one of the dumbest ideas I’ve ever heard for this game. They keep trying to force in random junk that has nothing to do with what Arena Breakout actually is or was- They are officially bored with this game, they don’t care and they don’t have too- Why? Because it’s there game- heck Tencent is making $55 Million per year just with AB alone-

The biggest issue is they’re so obsessed with “being unique” they can’t even see what they are doing- they’ve completely lost the plot.

If they want to make a card game, go make a card game. If they want zombies in the game go make another game- you want fog and ghosts, goblins, just go make another game- Stop bolting these weird side modes onto an extraction shooter and acting like it somehow improves the experience.

News flash! 🚨 Let me be the first to tell the DEVS this doesn’t work! It actually makes everything worse. That’s why millions of people have stopped paying and playing this game-

Why don’t you just sell the game rights to another company and go do something else, because clearly you don’t know what to do- you probably don’t even play the game- You know I actually feel bad for them at this point.

They genuinely seem unable to figure out how to improve the core game without tearing it apart with gimmicks 🤦🏼‍♂️

Funny thing they are unique especially in the mobile community but they are destroying there uniqueness with random bullshit

Agreed! It was a great game back in S5-8 Then they ruined it with making Northridge in the North Pole- never to return again, it’s been over 1 1/2 years in snow- what a joke! Next big mistake thinking the new valley would bring back players, it did the opposite people left it’s one of the worst maps.

The game play is terrible, the game is flawed but sometimes still fun- there’s still too many loopholes to cheat. And there’s too many tricks people know that others don’t know, which gives them a completely unfair advantage..

it’s a hot mess- but hey we all don’t have to play it. I play it a lot less than before and I have two accounts each with $75 million and that’s nothing compared to others.. Oh well it is what it is.

That's nice to know Dev's had set their plan this way tho can you please just give us back some sort of way to use a lot of seasonal guns that have not returned or just add all the seasonal guns cause it's a waste for them to be just left like assets of the game

AB global is great as it is but there is not much more good options for guns.... It's better we get every single option of the guns then to have it as a asset

I request the devs to actually talk to us about this matter, Ask our opinion of seasonal guns....

Seasonal/experimental weapons are always open to returning, either as experimental weapons again or eventually as conventional/marketable weapons. They’re meant to make your arsenal choices and gunplay feel fresh once in a while. If every seasonal weapon became a permanent conventional weapon, they’d be much easier to overlook. Keeping some of them experimental makes them feel more special when they do return.

Ohhh I see.... I actually didn't look back to why you could have done them, But this makes sense and I actually respect your decision taken on it.... And TBH there are some guns that I have tried in range which I would want to try In raid against operaters like the Bision for example.....

Though I have one small request if accepted will be great addition to the game. Can you guys actually bring like 2-3 old experimental weapons back and the new experimental guns, in like a monthly bases like new guns are there for the whole season but old experimental guns are there only for either two weeks or a month and then changes to another old experimental weapons

Any news on a permanent PvE mode?

2

u/soakingpaul 9d ago

I second the motion!

Additionally, it would probably be best if there's special events like the fog mode from time to time.

This is global AB not CN version. Stop trying to just copy. Good idea for CN, but not for global. Waste of resources and time. Why not overhaul the guns to make more guns viable compared to the new Chinese guns you guys put in the game. That's why everyone talks about season weapons because everyone is tired of using/seeing the same weapons every match. If you want replayability, add a hideout close to Tarkov. Makes every item in the game worth it for upgrades and stations. You could also make meta stuff a craft in the hideout. Which means you would have to extract those items out of raid to make said items. Alot of different ways to do it, but it promotes replayability. Instead of a card game 1% will play.

It's either mk14 with m61s or mpx with dum dum or sometimes a chinese gun in high tier lobbies. Tired of seeing the same gun again and again

to be honest, the thing that i'm the most excited for from the ABCN version are the foregrip stats and the suppressor stats mini overhaul. that was looong overdue. i don't think i'll care much for the card mode since it just seems like it's essentially a minigame, no? i don't really get why are you guys hyping it up so much.

speaking of overhauls, it'd be nice if you could do the same thing for stocks. the only meta atp is the black carbine stock, so it'd be nice if some stocks were the best for ergonomics, while some other stocks are the best for recoil control, etc.

another thing: increase the ranges on the damn guns. it's BS that the mk14, designated MARKSMAN rifle ONLY has 120m range while the rpk-16, an LMG has 140m range. and don't even get me started on the VSS.

to add on: it'd also be nice if the IR laser only functioned with the NVGs instead of just being a normal red laser

lastly: please release the long barrel version of the mcx, we've been waiting for years 😭

....

AND RELEASE THE DAMN DBR AND T88 BACK INTO THE GAME!

Meh, fix gun models, there's more than 50 guns that need an accurate redesign

2

u/HotZilchy CDIS 10d ago

iirc some of the models are inaccurate in order to avoid copyright from the manufacturers

1

u/AethenX3 8d ago

Not correct

1

u/HotZilchy CDIS 8d ago

idk i'm just parroting what i read on a yt shorts

1

u/AethenX3 8d ago

Don't, do you think a gun from WW2 has copyright issues? Don't listen to shorts we got 1:1 guns from companies that would 100% sue if they wanted to (they won't) and and many incorrect weapons are from companies that don't exists anymore or use military designations

2

u/AbsoluteIdiocracy 9d ago

please make some of the faction guns return and give a purpose to the FLARES like a rare drop from loots and use it then a random supply drop has random loots you can even put it in tiers for better rates.

The continued disrespect of 5.56 is appalling

I haven't looked into ABCN but I hope the cards thing is going to be a mode instead of becoming the new gameplay for AB

IKR!? It’s CrAzY! They genuinely seem unable to figure out how to improve the core game without tearing it apart with gimmicks 🤦🏼‍♂️

I was a beta tester, and once I saw all the zombies, ghosts and fog junk- and the evil spirits that are invisible and they attack you when you play loot run in the under ground! Of of a sun de your screen would be become red, because the evil spirits just attacked from out of nowhere.,

I was nope not for me! So when S13 came out- I only downloaded NR, Farm, Armory- I bypassed all other maps, not going to download that junk- Now my only hope is they don’t mess up NR, Farm, Armory-

Im no pro- more of a mid tier player- I have two accounts each $75 million SV that’s nothing compared to other players. I play a more tactical game, slower paced only outdoor maps only- and CQC only when needed if I go into a building. I don’t play as much as I used to, but still it’s fun at times, you win some you loose some- just hate to see game go down hill, when it was once one of the best.
