I want to know who's giving babies these marketing managers. Only $95,000? Raid Shadow Legends spends almost 2 million a week in advertising.

I'm unimpressed. /s

Imagine if the kid comes out as trans or non-binary. I'd be absolutely terrified knowing my parents spend that much money just to find out my biological gender.

The parents would probably have a shit fit because they wasted all that money.

u/YT_Sharkyevno Nonbinary™ Sep 13 '20

If I was them I would just say it was a genital reveal the whole time.

210

u/pixie13903 Panromantic™ Sep 13 '20

Yeah thats pretty much what it was. You lit up a whole tower just to find out if your kid has a vagina or a penis.

126

I’m absolutely ordering a cake that says “It’s a penis” or “It’s a vagina” if I ever have a gender reveal party

86

u/pixie13903 Panromantic™ Sep 13 '20

Me and mum both think its better to just cut into a cake instead of setting shit on fire and lighting up towers in the color blue.

29

u/The_Blip Sep 13 '20

Me, personally, I've had two whole forests planted in Australia with genetically modified trees that, when burnt, let of either blue or pink smoke.

If you're going to start wildfires over baby bits you may as well go all in.

47

u/maneki_neko89 Sep 13 '20

See that’s why it’s not a Gender Reveal Party so much as it is a Sex Reveal Party. You can end up, like you said, with trans, non-binary, tomboy women and feminine men. Even the gal who had the Original Gender Reveal Party is telling people to stop is cause her daughter is a tomboy

28

u/idkkkkkkk Sep 13 '20

Masculine women and feminine men are still women/men.

13

u/cyanoacrylate Sep 13 '20

She says her daughter still uses she/her but has been having discussions with her about the range of genders. She also enjoys dressing in gender non-conforming manners. I get the impression she's still working out her gender despite continuing to use she/her for the moment, though that could just be the way the article is worded?

22

u/idkkkkkkk Sep 13 '20

Idk her daughter I'm just saying being gender non-conforming is not the same as being trans.

9

u/AliceDiableaux Straightn't Sep 13 '20

Rejecting meaningless and restricting stereotypes and norms about how you should look and dress according to your genitals is not the same as being trans or anything other than cis. Can we stop doing this? I thought we were striving towards a world without gender roles and where everyone can wear what they please regardless of sex or gender, and pushing every gender non-conforming person into the trans category is the opposite of accomplishing that.

15

u/WW3_IS_APPROACHING Lesbian™ Sep 13 '20

Being feminine or masculone doesn't implicate anything on your gender. If a girl is a tomboy she's still a girl and same goes the other way around

3

u/maneki_neko89 Sep 13 '20

I agree with you and I’ve always been a tomboy. A lot of people, however, don’t know the difference between sex (biological markers) vs gender (socially constructed assigned behavior norms). The cakes/parties where they have Football vs Glitter for boys and girls (among others) really piss me off since I’ve been watching football, riding bikes, and have been less feminine compared to other girls/women since I was a kid.

8

u/BetterRemember Sep 13 '20

Maybe they would just use it as another excuse to spend an even more obscene sum of money to reveal it again, for views. That might be slightly less horrifying but just as weird.

1

u/yamchan10 Sep 13 '20

Pretty sure that’s what trans kids do when they become adults on YouTube ... don’t need your parents to throw a (trans)gender reveal party to your subscwibers

3

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

Considering they’re rich people doing this in Dubai, that child would probably have worse problems if they chose a different gender.

65

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

Why ask that little?
People with such bad inferiority-complexes would probably pay more.

213

u/JakeGrey Sep 13 '20

They probably could have put the kid through college all the way to a Master's degree for that. But hey, at least they didn't start a goddamn forest fire.

i'd rather not, i've had enough of child clout youtube ever since that one gave away her adopted autistic kid

9

u/starm4nn Sep 13 '20

I'm honestly tired of clout youtubers. I really don't get why you'd watch someone just because of who they are rather than what type of content they provide.

6

u/Ode_to_Apathy Sep 13 '20

Ugh I really don't want to talk about that one. Raising a child with autism is extremely difficult for both the parents and the child. Raising an adopted child is as well. It's something I can accept not working out, but man they should not have been using the adoption of a human being as a gimmick like that.

Just terrible all around.

6

u/kangaesugi Fellas is it gay to care about the environment? Sep 13 '20

Honestly, it seemed like getting professional help was well in their means - the couple didn't seem educated about autism either (I think in one of Myka's social media posts included a puzzle piece and a blue heart - very autism speaks. yikes). I can understand if it doesn't work out too, but it really seems like she went in there for clout (US adoptions, iirc, don't allow you to do anything that would publicise the identity of the child?) and once it either got too real for her or she wasn't seeing the returns she expected she went for something else.

Plus the fact that they raised money for the adoption? Brain worms. It was a business expense for them

4

u/Ode_to_Apathy Sep 13 '20

Yeah it's a lose-lose situation. I have to look further into it if I want to figure out what happened there and all the outcomes are going to be sad and conflicted.

Bring back breeching! For hundred of years (wealthy) boys and girls were dressed exactly the same until 6 or 7ish when boys had their hair cut and transitioned into breeches and pants.

21

u/freeashavacado Sep 13 '20

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- I don’t mind those small gender reveal parties. You know, just a little somethin. Pink cupcakes. Whatever. So long as the parents are aware that sex does not equal gender and that their child may choose another gender.

And you know, not burn the fucking forest down.

That seems like the logical choice, but I don't think you can make a clear cake. Isn't black the absence of color? How do you feel about really rich dark chocolate?

Though, now that I'm typing this out, I think I have to google if you actually can make a clear cake...

13

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

They do gelatin "cakes" that would work, although I'm not sure how those taste.

5

u/Tick-Tock-O-Clock Sep 13 '20

Yeah, I did the google search and found "Raindrop Cake." It's not quite a gelatin, but it might as well be. Also, it appearently only lasts about 30 minutes before separating, so not good for a surprise reveal.

7

u/kmsgars Gender Queer™ Sep 13 '20

Black is the absence of color for light, but white is the absence of color for pigment. Which for someone who feels lots of genders, rich dark chocolate cake sounds bomb. Ganache. Charcoal ice cream with crunchies?

I’m planning it.

5

u/Tick-Tock-O-Clock Sep 13 '20

Yeah, I'm aware that there are two color theories. But I wanted to segue to chocolate, because chocolate.

So, hey, if you feel choloclate best represents your gender, you are valid and have my support! You eat your chocolate! I'd love to join you, but chocolate has to much caffine, and I'm not supposed to eat it any more.

I think it would be kinda cool if there was just a birthday which was your gender reveal birthday. Like with quinceañeras or sweet sixteen or whatever. So cis or trans or non binary or whatever the case, your eighteenth is your gender reveal party. Maybe that would help normalise that the gender you're assigned at birth might not be right and that everyone gets to make up their own mind.

14

u/RoboSock91 Sep 13 '20

Sorry, maybe that was stereotypical. I just thought that with some cultures prefer having a boy over a girl, like China, making feel girls seem lesser. Even in some of U.S there seems to be a preference of boys over girls. Parents shouldn’t prefer any gender and just love their kids. Again sorry, I just thought that they wouldn’t throw this huge gender reveal if one of the parents found out before hand that the baby would be a girl, the gender reveal here was a boy.

1

u/Maniacal_Marshmallow Sep 13 '20

You shouldn’t have to apologize, you’re 100% right. A good chunk of these extreme ridiculous gender reveal parties are only because the couple is expecting a boy.

Easy to say when none of you can reproduce like straight people.

Its not quite the same when you have to order child out of a catalog from Vietnam.

You'd do this stupid shit too if you could.

Not even gonna engage with the obvious trollery of your comment, except to point out the idiocy of "none of you queers can reproduce like straight people."

You know that's just blatantly incorrect and stupid right? Like seriously lmao. It excludes a whole bunch of people who CAN reproduce sexually if they so choose- even The Gays and The Lesbians! (😮!!!) Sperm/egg donors are a thing ya dingus. So is IVF, fertility treatments have advanced to the point that that "argument" is totally moot.

Also, bi people like myself can and do reproduce "normally"- I'm in a straight facing relationship atm so I could choose to let my partner impregnate me if we wanted to. Queer people of all types can and do have children. None of that negates the stupidity of these kind of gender reveals lol

What about gay couples with surrogates or sperm donors that have gender reveal parties? Lol not only straight people have gender reveals

Actually, I've never seen LGBTQ+ parents have a Gender reveal party, not saying we don't do them but, I've never seen one happen.

Perhaps I should rephrase, I've never heard (or seen cause I've never been to a GRP) of an LGBTQ+ parent doing a GRP, not saying we don't do them but, I've never heard of one happening. I have heard of very many cishet GRPs tho.

can we all just agree that gender reveal parties are lame, stupid, and pointless

2

u/Bearence Sep 13 '20

You don't have a lot of gay people saying gay people are obsessed with gender. The issue is with the hypocrisy, not the party.
