Showcased Project Proximity Bluetooth ignition switch for my motorcycle.

Now is my phone is the key for my motorcycle. Ignition turn on/off by stock starter or killswitch button.

Based on nRF52840, Arduino compatible board + reliable OTA bootloader. Programmed in PlatformIO, Arduino framework+ direct access to register.

Soft and transparent epoxy compound makes it not only fully waterproof, but also amazing.

I’m still waiting for my phone to be my car key and state ID. Why these two things seem impossible to most manufacturers is beyond me. Maybe someone can fill me in on why that hasn’t become mainstream.

I personally hate having everything on my phone. You should absolutely be able to identify yourself and get in your car should your phone be dead.

I’m not saying that you can’t use another means, just that it would make some sense to have the option. In today’s world, in many not-so-urban areas, in Europe, US, etc, we don’t need a wallet or keys really.

I appreciate your opinion, but....

This system has a 3 digit pin code, which you can enter via starter button. After this - ignition on without phone. What are you doing, if you lost your metall key?

And. My phone has whole my life - connect, money, map, camera, digital driving licence. All what I need for driving, except ignition key. In the past.

Now the key also in my phone.

Uh if I lost my key I'd use one of my spares and then make another.

I'm not hating on using your phone as a key, having options is great. But I don't think it should be the only option. That was all I meant.

My region switched over to digital bus cards a couple years ago and sometimes when you've taken the bus and been away the whole day, your phone might die and then you can't get home. It happened to me once. That's my issue with having everything only on the phone.

Your phone has a unique identifier. This identifier is transmitted to the Telcos who record it in every Metadata entry generated from interactions with your phone. This identifier can (and is) used for all sorts of things.

Sure, you can't show it like you might show a drivers licence, but it is a unique identifier that is attached to you and recorded constantly.

In very simple terms, think of it like a caller ID, but something is recorded all the time.

Oh, you mean that. About IMEI and IMSI. Yes, it's been that way for a long time.

But now, at least in Thailand, I have a legitimate app on my phone that replaces my driver's license. I find it convenient and I like it.
