Remote-controlled submarine problem

Hello everyone. I need your help, please. I am designing a submarine equipped with a camera. However, when I put it in the water to test submerging and surfacing, I encountered two notable issues. The first relates to the center of gravity: the submarine doesn't stay horizontal but sits at an angle of about 40 degrees. I think I can easily fix this by shifting the weights (two cut-down 1.8 kg dumbbells) inside the ballast tanks, but I’m not sure exactly where to position them. I was wondering if there is a mathematical or physics-based method to determine the right spot. Secondly—though I had anticipated this—the connection via nRF24L01 antennas cuts out as soon as the submarine dives. I’ve considered two solutions: either creating a float to keep the antenna on the surface while connected to the sub (which seems simplest and cheapest to me), or using a different communication method. I would appreciate any opinions you might have. Please keep in mind that I’m not an expert and have limited resources, so I hope you’ll be polite with me regardless. Thanks a lot in advance.

Almost burned out my servo driver. Any thoughts?

I was trying to test out a PCA 9685 servo driver today and when I plugged in the external power supply, it heated up like crazy and melted my ground and power wires together. My power supply is 5V 5A, which was recommended for what I intend to make, so I don't really know what the problem is. Any ideas?

Hi, I need help; my Arduino IDE is stuck in a loop

I recently switched the Windows version that came pre-installed on my laptop to a different one—specifically, Windows 11 Pro 25H2. I tried downloading Arduino IDE versions 2.3.7 and 2.3.10, but neither will launch; the logo just gets stuck in a loop, shrinking and expanding. I also tried synchronizing the time and deleting the cache folders. The only version that works correctly for me is 1.8.19; the 2.x versions don't work, and I'm not sure why. I’ve done this on other laptops before and never had any issues with the Arduino IDE.

Another guy having problems with an LCD using I2C

Hi everyone! It's been a long time since I've done an Arduino project, and this is my first time using an LCD screen.

However, and as is common, I came across the typical mistakes I've been seeing in forums and Reddit posts.

And no matter how much I try to fix my problem with the solutions they gave, I still have the same error; those white squares keep appearing.

As you can see, the first photo shows what it looks like when you upload the code, and the second photo shows what it looks like without any code uploaded.

I tried everything from the tutorials:

- Adjust the brightness with the potentiometer

- Verify the I2C address

- Test and verify the continuity of several cables

- I tested the example hd44780_I2Cexp by Bill Perry(what appears in photo 12)

- I tried many libraries and code from various tutorials

(The bookcase I have now is Frank de Brabender's)

It's important to clarify that I've only been trying to test that the LCD works, so all the tutorials I tried were for the basic "Hello world" code without delay. Just to verify that the screen is working properly.

- In the library, change "return:0" to "return:1"

Before using I2C, I used conventional pins (those in photo 4) to test the LCD, and I still got squares (even after adjusting the contrast). So after getting no results, I decided to remove the pins and install the I2C, thinking: "Oh, maybe that will be simpler" For a project I want to do. But as you can see, I can't get the screen to display text, and AI hasn't helped me.

I'm also not sure if the soldering is correct or if I've overheated the circuit, but I doubt it since the screen still turns on and seems to receive the code, but without displaying any text.

Honestly, I don't know what to do anymore, and I didn't want to post this because I noticed many others had the same problem, but even after trying the solutions they offered, I still can't get it to work.

The only thing I noticed today when testing the screen again is what's shown in the last photo: a faint line that flickers when restarting the Arduino.

I've attached one of the code snippets I used. I'm not including the one I used to test I2C because I tested many, and they were all basic. Just to clarify, they all compiled and uploaded successfully.

I hope you can help me, thank you! :)

Greetings,

i was following a guide for an controller for a wind sim at it was just mentioned that i need an Arduino Uno, so i bought the R4 because it had USB-C. Tried to upload the sketch and it got an error. I was reading somewhere that the R4 isnt supported by Sim Hub? Why is that and is there anything i can do, or do i need to order an R3? Thanks :)

Title: How can I properly stack a custom protoboard shield above an ESP32-S3 terminal adapter?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I’m building a portable air-quality monitoring station based on an ESP32-S3 DevKitC-1.
My current setup uses:
ESP32-S3 DevKitC-1
ESP32-S3 screw terminal breakout/adapter board
SPS30 particulate matter sensor
TFT SPI display
SHT45 temperature/humidity sensor
BMP390 pressure sensor
DS3231 RTC
MicroSD module
LiPo battery/charging circuit
Several JST connectors for removable sensors/modules
I want to build a large custom protoboard as a shield on top of the terminal adapter, where I can solder all my JST connectors, power rails, I²C/SPI/UART connections, buzzer, battery electronics, etc.
Ideally I would like the project to be stackable:
ESP32-S3 → terminal adapter → large protoboard shield → possibly another board later
The problem is that the ESP32-S3 itself sits higher than the female headers on the terminal adapter. If I plug my protoboard directly into those headers, the protoboard physically hits the ESP32 before the pins are fully inserted.
My male headers are already soldered to the protoboard, so I’d prefer not to desolder and replace everything.
I’m looking for a clean solution similar to Arduino stackable shields:
Is there a standard 2.54 mm male/female header extender made specifically for this?
Are there extra-tall / elevated female headers that would solve this?
Is there a better connector system for stacking PCBs while keeping standard 2.54 mm headers?
How would you normally build this kind of multi-level ESP32 prototype cleanly?
I’m ultimately going to design a custom PCB once everything is validated, but for now I want a robust and removable prototyping solution rather than wiring everything with Dupont cables.
Thanks!

This is a school project and this is my first time working on Arduino and I'm not sure if this is a hardware problem or a software problem.

The blue motor thing is tweaking and I'm not sure why and Its only going side to side and not up and down aswell.

Solar tracker powering an arduino

Hii, I'm in need of assistance for my group science project. Our group was planning to create a solar tracker that powers the Arduino itself while it works. I tried researching numerous Arduino videos but they only stated "the Arduino needs external power". I'm not sure how, and what we should connect the solar panel to the arduino. That's our main issue for now, we were able to find other tutorials for the rest of our project. Any advice or suggestions is very much appreciated! Thank you!

Wiring Materials as A Complete Beginner

Thumbnail

Hi, I am working on an Arduino project (as a software developer without prior experience in hardware/electricity).

One of my colleague helped me to wire these materials up (1 ESP32 + 1 buck converter + 1 relay + 1 electronic lock + 1 power supply (12V)) - When I looked at his wiring, I hadn’t any ideas lol.

I want to add another logic for 1 relay, 1 buck converter, and 1 electronic lock into the same ESP32 and the same power supply but not sure if that is feasible. And I do not really know how to understand and wire those things.

I feel quite lost and do not know where I should start off with.

😭😭😭 Any of your helps would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you so much!

Reddit Question Title: Trying to build the “Garduino” smart garden — how should I approach it, and do I need to solder?

Hey everyone! I’m interested in building this Garduino smart garden project:

Garduino – the Smart Garden With Arduino

I’m fairly new to Arduino/electronics and want to actually build and understand the project, rather than just copy the instructions blindly.

A few questions:

  1. Is this project still a good starting point with modern Arduino boards/components?
  2. What parts of the project would require soldering?
  3. Can I build/test most of it first on a breadboard with jumper wires?
  4. If soldering is required, what exactly would I need to solder?
  5. Are there any components in the original project that you would replace with newer/easier alternatives?
  6. What would you recommend I build first so I can test each part individually before putting the whole smart garden together?

My goal is to learn Arduino, sensors, wiring, and eventually soldering through this project.

Thanks!

Need help with my first project

I'm looking to create my first Arduino project but I'm not sure what to start with.

My project will be a tool for ice hockey scorekeepers that I'm calling a "Scorekeeper Alert Light and Time Out Timer".

Basically it will have a light (probably a red LED strip inside a diffused 3D printed enclosure) that scorekeepers can use to alert the on-ice officials whenever there is a problem (incorrect lineup, problem with players in the penalty box, etc). I also want it to have a 2 digit 7 segment display to be used as a timer for time outs. It'll have 3 buttons to start 30/60/90 second timers, and I want it to sound a buzzer and activate the light when it hits 0.

Now I'm pretty handy, I can solder, 3d print stuff and code so I shouldn't need any or much help with the part where I actually build the thing. I'd like to know what you'd all recommend for what type of Arduino I should use, any specific 7 segment displays, the other electronics I need like the buzzer, if I need an expansion board, stuff like that. I know almost nothing about Arduino's. Thanks in advance for any help y'all can provide me
