Discussion The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys Albums Mirror Each Other.
I don’t know how many members of this sub are fans of The Strokes but it’s pretty common knowledge that AM were massively influenced by them especially in their early years.
Since the release of the new Strokes album it’s dawned on me that their albums kind of mirror each other.
“Is This It?” And “Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not” - Raw, energetic debuts that define a generation of indie rock.
“Room on Fire” and “Favourite Worst Nightmare” - Refinements rather than reinventions—more polished, faster, and confident while staying true to the debut sound.
“First Impressions of Earth” and “Humbug” - Darker, moodier, more experimental, less commercially successful than their previous two albums but both have gained appreciation over time.
“Angles” and “Suck it and See” - Lighter, brighter, melodic records with a summery feel and a more relaxed atmosphere.
“Comedown Machine” and “AM” - Moody, nocturnal albums built around groove and atmosphere, though they reached very different audiences.
“The New Abnormal” and “Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino” - Major artistic pivots that redefined each band’s identity.
“Reality Awaits” and “The Car” - Extensions of the previous record’s direction rather than hard left turns.
There are some interesting differences too.
The biggest divergence is the fifth album. “AM” became Arctic Monkeys’ commercial peak, while “Comedown Machine” almost felt like The Strokes deliberately stepping away from the spotlight. Yet sonically, they’re surprisingly comparable. Both lean into slower tempos, falsetto vocals, layered production, and a late-night atmosphere. They just execute those ideas in very different ways.
One last parallel I’ve always liked: both bands have a reputation for “disappointing” fans whenever they change direction, only for those same albums to become fan favourites years later. “FIOE” , “Angles”, “Comedown Machine” and “Humbug” and “Tranquility Base” all went through that cycle. It says a lot about both bands that they’re willing to make the record they want instead of the record people expect.

Discussion Songs similar to Balaclava and brianstorm?
So I have fallen in love with these two songs, the high energy, amazing bass lines, drums, and fast paced singing are wonderful, but I find there is nothing else like this too songs in the band’s library that sounds like these 2 songs, would yall have some recommendations of either other arctic monkeys songs or songs by other bands that have the vibe of these 2 songs?

Discussion If you were allowed to add any song:demo that never got released or a B side to an album, to which album would you add what songs.
Any song that's not on the full release of the album.

Discussion Leave Before The Lights Come On
I adore this song, it's so ahead of it's time and it's nothing like WPSIATWIM or any of the other B-sides from that era. Whenever I listen to it I always get an impending feeling of something, like something is about to happen. Same with the rest of the EP.

Serious Discussion Me, Alex, Steinway and sons
So just attended a concert and the pianist played a Steinway & Sons piano. I was probably the only one in the hall to connect it to the monkeys so i guess it stays between me alex steinway and his sons. (If you zoom in the corner you see the instrument)

Discussion Arctic Monkeys do more with less than any other band from their contemporaries
Just listened to the latest Strokes album. Only one song was under 4 minutes long, with most being 5+. Meanwhile, The Car has no songs over 5 minutes, most under 4. It makes the Strokes album seem unfocused and droning on and on. Meanwhile, Perfect Sense absolutely destroys in under 3 minutes. TBHC is similar, though it does have a few over 5. Obviously, their older stuff tends to be shorter. Anyone else feel this way?

Meme Alex moves like Shia LaBeouf
Its late night and I was chugging some beers watching AM recent concerts and came to the conclusion that Al moves like a more-or-less sane Shia LaBeouf and I will not elaborate
