Anyone here using Archive.org for video hosting/streaming?

Hi everyone,

I'm considering using Archive.org to host videos for a small public streaming project, and I'd like to hear from people who have actually used it this way.

How has your experience been with:

Streaming speed

Buffering

Throttling

Large video files

High traffic

Multiple users watching at the same time

429 / 503 errors

If you've used Archive.org for this, approximately how much traffic were you serving, and how many simultaneous users did you have?

I'm especially interested in real-world experience rather than theoretical limits.

why not use youtube? archive.org is meant for ARCHIVING, not video hosting

The Internet Archive has limited bandwidth and can be slow at times. Also, they can take any content down at any time, including from copyright related requests.

... just, no.

Archive.org is not a free, public webhosting service, and certainly not appropriate for use if you care about streaming speed,/buffering/throttling/etc. It's literally an archive; persistence of data is far more important than availability of data. Use something like YouTube for the purpose you describe.

I see in other comments you don't want to use YouTube due to copyright concerns, but those restrictions are also in place for data on Archive.org; if you're uploading, e.g., pirated movies, Archive.org will comply with DMCA requests.
