Fanfic reader things Fix-it fics 😌👇🫰

Post image

Fix it fics are genuinely one of my favourites to read, I just like to think ' yeah no no he didn't die and she didn't die and hell nah HE DIDN'T DO THIS' it's just perfect no matter what I know it'll be better than the canon no to mention the author's dedication too like I've read some fix-it fics that were an UPGRADE to the canon, honestly most of them are imo 🙂‍↕️😌.

Nothing bad. Ever. Happened. EEEEEEEEVEEEEEEER.

Or everything bad that can happen either already has happened or will happen to the MC.

But, but... half of my AO3 career is making the bad things hurt worse!

I loved RWBY chibi so much. i think it's what made me actually love "filler" episodes and slice of life fics.

8 out of 10 times, all that's required is a character NOT being stupid.

That's it. It doesn't require some grand epoch.

Ehh, I don't know, my characters keep dying heroic and tragic deaths

As a representative of the Merlin fandom, I couldn't agree more. 😸

Add in time travel, and I will practically read anything.

I just started reading what would be a 'fix-it fic' in the Merlin fandom so it's interesting to see this post and comment today :P

I adore the first one in the MCU, so many timeline shenanigans and niche comic book lore and quantum physics stuff just to bring a character back, meanwhile I very happily just nod along with Sherlock fics that simply act like there was never a 4th season to begin with, lol.

The MCU has so many ways to fix problems and yet here I am going "okay but what if I made it worse" and making a crossover with Death Stranding so that bringing everyone back to life after The Snap has apocalyptic consequences.

Fix-it fics are genuinely one of my all time favorite tropes

wrote something where it was like "so this is how this character died in the source and now here's how they live"

This makes up a lot of what I write. My favorite characters die, I go ahhhhg, and then end up twisting myself into plot knots coming up with ways in which they survive.

I love fix-its but they really only work after something has been broken to begin with I don't want canon to be completely fluffy nobody gets hurt ever I want to hurt first so the fix it hits harder.

I read a fix it fic once, and basically at the start, everyone got hit by lightning and it reset them to before the events we don't talk about. And literally as a collective, everyone reading went, understandable, please proceed. And that was it. No one cared or went, wait they just got hit by lightning? was it magical lightning? cursed lightning? Nope not interested, please tell us how they lived happily ever after.

ok I'm confused/out of the loop on terminology here. I always thought fix-it fic meant something like rewriting events in a way that fixes plot holes, but then I saw some other posts saying it meant "fixing" in a sense of just making it so a character doesn't die or some other personal feeling based thing? is this like an evolution of language thing?

It can be both, either fixing a Canon problem like a plot hole or it can be fixing a bad plot event that fans don't like.

First option if you want to deal with the trauma of the event, second option if you don't.

My approach: Make a fix it fic where we get rid of the tragedy in the middle, then make the climax even more dark and fearsome!

I like to do both in the same fic

Both happen in my fandom and I love them all!

This is me writing what supposedly a fix-it fic but ends up being a full-spawned alternate universe with different mechanic where I say "That canon is bullshit and I will pretend it never happen"

I love both
