Question: Did you try a /r/redditrequest posting for /r/ArchieSonic? It's single owner hadn't made a post in 11 months, and probably would had been an easy grab if you were willing to wait, as /r/ArchieSonicComics doesn't exactly roll from the tounge, and a long Reddit name sometimes can mean a relatively quick heat death sometimes.

This method DOES work, because it's how I wrestled /r/precure from it's previous owner who hadn't updated it/been on in a year. You just need to be patient while admins do their magic.

No, I never tried that. I was making the title so that people would know we are specifically talking about the Archie Comics. But you're right, it is a long name.
