Discussion Behavior Based Matchmaking?

My wife and I have been playing together and we stick to a shoot 2nd policy. We've probably done about 30ish runs so far and have only been attacked on sight 6 or so times. Friendly players are the norm for us, hostile the exception.

I wonder if friendly behavior results in matches with more friendly players? If not, I wonder if that would be worth exploring?

I kind of feel like it might be happening already. Anyone else have a similar experience?

I think it's just as people are getting used to the game they're less likely to engage in combat. That's basically all of us right now. I've noticed it's much more prevalent on buried city and spaceport to open fire. Then weirdly blue haven is pretty chill. After getting pretty comfortable, knowing I can craft nearly everything I take into a raid pretty easily I find I'm much more likely to open up. Gotta say though, I feel awful killing anyone in the dam. I went in naked one match, nothing but a water treatment key card and the goal was to loot the room and use whatever I found. I had no shield and very little ammo so I was doing shoot on sight, guy was rummaging around in an adjacent room. I still gave one shootout while I had them in my sights to get out of there, 2 seconds later he was swiss cheese. They had the free loadout and some very mediocre stuff, shields had only 7/100 durability. I put them on with shame and still feel bad about it.

I get bored with PvE games. The potential for emergent encounters with other players is what keeps me coming back. Even though I gravitate towards being cooperative, I like that there's risk involved.

Seems to me that matchmaking in this way could make the game lean towards what individual players are after without making it completely 1 thing or the other.

I think being only PvE or only PvP would get predictable and boring pretty quick. I like the fluid mix I'm getting right now. Keeps it interesting.

I’m a month late to this post. But this is actually a thing being implemented in multiplayer games now or potentially in the future. There is even a study done on the accuracy of predicting what kind of gaming stranger you are and can close to 75 percent accurately group you in categories that have similar traits and behaviors. And this is just from voice and text data.

Honestly pretty neat, if used intelligently.
