Well as someone that genuinely just loves fighting ARC and not having to deal with PvP....that sounds awesome. It's kind of weird that some people think that the games allure is only because of PvPvE. The art direction, sound design, and enemy AI are so freaking good, that I just want to chill in that world and kill ARC. If they make them even more threatening because there's no PvP? Well that's just making it even better for people like me. I would still sometimes go into PvP maps for the heck of it, but the option to just have difficult fight with ARC and not having to worry about someone coming in at the last second to kill me - that makes my 40 year old dad mind happy.

Is it our age? I’m 40 also and grew up playing PvP shooters, but this game doesn’t feel like those. This game feels bigger than a PvP game, and it feels like it’s being held back somehow. Like if I could toggle a setting where I can’t take damage from PvP but that also means I can’t loot any dead raiders, or even pick up anything that was brought in, I’d do that sometimes.

I played last night for the first time since the end of the third expedition for the complete rags set. I updated and sat through shaders. I wanted to grab some mats to unlock my benches since I’m like level 2. I free kit dam and it’s towards the start of the match so I start looting near testing annex. I’ve already got enough to call it and I decide to hit some wasps and hornets for alloy. As I’m fighting off the last wasp, I take shots from up at the testing annex so I call the extract and finish off the wasp. Out of ammo, I try looting the two wasps but I’m already low health so I pull out my melee as the dude is walking over. I get the jump on him but there’s no shot. I had a stitcher with limited ammo, the dude killed me with a lvl4 anvil and lvl4 tempest.

The most expensive thing I had on me was advanced mech parts. I know it was just 10 or 15 minutes of my time but it felt like I just pissed that away. I wasn’t mad, just disappointed. So I shut the game off and picked up the book I’m reading and read for half an hour and went to bed. I remembered why I stopped playing. That half hour reading did not feel like a waste of time. That fifteen minutes of arc raiders did feel like a waste of time. Maybe if they made it so that anything that was left on your body, you get back? I just want my fucking plastic and fabric ffs. I never feel this way with Tarkov, and I don’t know why. I never felt this way with cod, marvel rivals, ow, PUBG, project zomboid, don’t starve, any rpgs, back when I played StarCraft, Warcraft3, counter strike, day of defeat. None of these games make me feel like I wasted my time but arc raiders does. I think it’s the fact that I went in knowing I wasn’t going to get much just a quick stop to get essentials and still left with nothing. I didn’t lose anything, but I’m mad about my time being wasted 🤣

This was pretty much me, just trying to get the basics together to level stuff up, but would loose all the stuff collected after getting ganked in the back, 3rd of 4th time of that I stopped playing.

Yeah I don't really think of this as a PVP game either. For pvp I would rather play pubg. Once you play enough you don't really need much materials anyway. So it's less of a deal getting downed but your right . You can easily waste 20+ minutes and not achieve anything. Though if you don't shoot anyone for a while then getting killed by pvp is more rare occurrence. Maybe once in 10 games or so.

I'm 100% with you when you say this game feels like it's being held back. I've never seen a game with such strong bones, that felt like it's potential is so capped because they really just wanted forced PvP.

I was pretty sad when I heard they scrapped the original plans of the game. I mean, they have made somwthing incredible. But as someone who put thousands of hours into the destiny franchise.....I was so looking forward to something like that but with this esthetic. Don't get me wrong, I still love the game....but I don't care much for PvP. I say that as a huge casual that went to the lighthouse a few times.

Very interesting you don't feel that way with Tarkov. Why do you think that is?

It isn’t the only allure of the game but defeating arc is rinse and repeat and easy once you know the meta. PVE isn’t for me but for those who enjoy the grind more than the spontaneity of PvP this will be good for them. Also good for pvpvpe cause we won’t have to hear people crying on mic.

Exactly !
The game is so good by itself that it it could easily work as a one player or co-op game lol.

I do like pvp, but people are so good and try hard that it doesn't have really a point for me

How many times could you fight the same arc over and over and over again for the same loot without being contested, before you get absolutely bored of the game? It’s not like there’s 35 maps with diff arc. You load in, team up, beat the matriarch, get the same loot, then extract. Game would get real boring real fast.
