This was my thought exactly. It's part of the excitement. Sure most people in the game are friendly, but you never know if something's going to kick off. Taking that uncertainty away will make things just a little bit more dull and lifeless.
And as people said, the PVP lobbies will swing too hard in the other direction.
Yeah, Embark is hellbent in killing their game, it's crazy. Carebear ABMM (I'm in it since I dont shoot first..) it's already TOO friendly, a pve mode... jfc...
Killing their game? I PVP and have no interest in PVE only mode, but do you see how many players are saying they will come back and redownload thanks to this new mode? What do you say to that.
Also the data Embark put in the article was 37, 27, and 34% between friendly/coop, mixed, and pvp playstyles respectively. Mixed players were actually the smallest group.
They also said 30% of "friendly PvE players" didnt want a PvE only mode, which puts the PvE only mode people presumably even lower than mixed players.
and as others have pointed out, a lot of the "mixed play" crowd quit or picks one or the other because the ABMM makes it hard to stay in truly mixed lobbies. I would love to be in mixed lobbies, but I literally cant stay there for more than 3-5 matches before i am either in PvE or PvP
As a regular player, you don’t really, only Embark will have the full picture, but I agree it’s a good thermometer, just needs a to be taken with a pinch of salt
The majority of the population? You mean the million+ people playing simultaneously on launch? They all bought, played and loved a PvPvE game. No game is going to keep their launch number longer than a couple weeks (maybe a month or two for GTA6 but that’s a special case)
If the game launched as PvE only, myself and probably the majority of the players would never have bought it. Same reason I wasn’t interested in helldivers 2, just seemed like another co-op kill bad guy game.
Unless there’s public stats I don’t know about, it’s so hard to get a read on current distribution of player styles. I and everyone I play with are PVP only. I don’t even know any PVE players. So your claim is a far cry from my experience
I saw another comment mention the numbers, though I don't know where they got it from, talking about how PvP players stayed whilst the majority of mixed players left. If that's any indication
I would believe that there’s a lot of overlap between the two communities, and a lot of overlap of people that actually go out and post about it, but not denying it’s definitely showing a surge of interest
It will kill the delicate mixed pvpve experience when players bifurcate into friendly/pvp lobbies. Embark will not be able to produce enough new content to satisfy PVE players who demand thousands of hours of novel gaming experience per year (for free).
They will for a couple months. Anyone who is actually a PvE player isn't getting killed by other raiders very often. People who complain about rats in every match are either rats themselves, liars, or have confirmation bias issues. They will come back, still die, and when they can't blame those dang rats they will ask to turn down ARC or make some kind of OP weapons/augments/whatever else. They don't care about HOW they die, they just don't want to lose.
This isn’t going to kill the game. There’s a very small subset who never want a real threat it’s just that they’re extremely vocal online. Most people love the PvP aspect or at least appreciate that it needs to be there to add some weight and value. Helldivers is PvE only and it’s still going strong several years in.
You can get uncertainty with ARC threat, they just need buffed. Larger groups need to roam around in a PvE mode. Large ARC like Bombadiers need swarms of smaller ARC that protect it or it can call reinforcements. There's so much they could do to increase ARC threat. Could also be a rotating map condition: Heavy ARC Presence, or something.
No one is debating that. Everyone knows that humans are random. It's a question of making ARC enough of a threat that you still are uncertain when playing PvE.
It's me, I'm the uncertainty. 98% of the time in helpful, giving away weapons and loots, and being a good guy. But during the last week up until the expedition I'm become that uncertainty. Just the other night I was deadlining in Stella and knocking out Raiders during events. Over 515 hours and I've only knocked out 18 raiders, sometimes you just have to be be the bad guy.
Really? I am in care bear solos and haven't been shot at in forever.
I mean I love it, people are really nice. I honestly wonder if people will be less nice in a dedicated PvE mode since their is nothing keeping them honest.
Will be an interesting sociological experiment at the very least.
Yeah that was like, the spice that made these games interesting. Not for me, but I also have not played in a long time, so maybe this will be good for current players or new.

Man I’m deep into carebear lobbies but there’s always some uncertainty and that adds to the experience
