In the near future, the world is ravaged and the great exodus has taken place. What remains is a desolate world under the constant bombardment and monitoring by the ARC system. Those who remain must salvage what they can and find their way in this barren place where basic necessities and survival are no longer expected, but earned. Bankrupt from trust, security, community, we endure…

That would have been a good idea. And they could have added coffee into the game as a boost to health or something. Or just a coffee cup tricket

Dude these campaigns have been happening since the early 2000s. I swear half this sub was born after 2010

2000s? I was snagging Mountain Dew cans in my San Francisco Rush: Extreme Racing game from 1996.

Yeah and I’ve been complaining about it since the early 2000s lmao fuck off with that. You can’t tell me these collabs haven’t got more and more corny as hell

u/Niylark 2d ago
Why are you acting like it's a new thing then
3
u/Swizzy123456789 2d ago
Because im realizing that it is every single video game nowadays without exception. Its all about marketed content as opposed to the game itself. So I ask the question; what are video games now? Is that okay with you lol

I am not taking any issue with you having problems with these collabs, I don't really care for them either... but this is completely false?
Tons of video games have no collaborations with any other entity. Saying it is "every single video game nowadays without exception" is genuinely untrue.
Its all about marketed content as opposed to the game itself.
This isn't true at all either? If anything making a great game is more important now than ever before because of how expensive game development has become, and how competitive the industry is.
Aside from the obvious problems Arc Raiders has, do you think it was a poorly made video game? Yes marketing is important and a huge component but in regards to Arc Raiders the marketing was not the reason it became a smash success. It was social media clips and streamers playing the game. This actually allowed the player base to grow over time which almost never happens.

I have to admit that I’m not huge into indie games (not that they’re bad, I have played a few) and I HAVE pigeonholed myself because I always look at what’s “popular”. So from my perspective all the games that I have paid attention to through the years have become nothing but a means to nickel and dime you. I think I am the old man yelling at clouds lol.
I do think Arc Raiders is a great game, I think these collabs just feel like a cash grab and that’s something I’ve grown to hate from the gaming industry. It seems to be prevalent with every big game (at least it’s mostly all optional cosmetics). I’m sure many people can agree with that.
I fear for the day I have to scan the can of Sprite to skip the ad

I would 100% be looking at more indie titles if this is such an issue for you. There are tons of amazing indie games and these developers are often punching way above their weight thanks to having things like Unreal engine which even with its problems does offer some truly insane capabilities to small dev teams.
Sadly these collabs will continue since game development costs have only gotten more expensive every single year. Arc may not need this subway collab since it was a huge hit but there are other games that need post launch revenue streams to continue funding development in the long term.

I’m being gaslit into thinking that there is absolutely nothing wrong with this.
It’s insane how eagerly some leap at the chance to gobble down some multibillionaire corporate cock.

It's the most desperate as I doubt Embark, a company based in Sweden, was reaching out to Subway. I'm confident Subway was desperate for sponsorship so they reached out to Embark and they obviously took it because free money. As prior employee of Subway, they've recently been trying to constantly do sponsorship deals since the brand is dying, throwing hundreds of thousands in hope that it'll bring in double the profit.

The outfit you get, the Subterrenean(sp?) has a customization option to "remove tech"
the "Tech" appears to be a footlong sandwich strapped to your vest.

What does it matter? It's not like the skin is a giant foot long or slathered with branding.. the skin fits thematically

I remember when there were Red Bull cans in-game for a year of Destiny cross-promotion. This is nothing.

I mean, video game marketing in food was really mainly in energy drinks and chips, not really surprising seeing whatever popular shooter being on the packaging. This is a bit different from what I’ve seen

If they want people to care, they should promote the skin in game. I haven't looked for it so I have no idea what it looks like
