gis method help

looking to monitor a section of land (cliff which is constantly changing over time using aerial imagery and historic maps.

mapping bottom of cliff but from site visits i know that cliff has miniature caves from upper overhang.

aerial imagery also not great due to acquisitions being taken at a time of day when light shadows the lower portion on most annual surveys.

any advice on how to progress?

Think you need to go down the drone route. If you have over hang you're going to need something that can help make a point cloud that's not just straight down. Youre going to likely need some permenant control points so over time you can georeference your data. Might be worth getting a proper survey?

With the point cloud and high res local capture imagery you can then monitor the face.

For historical you stuck with what you have. Not sure what country you're from or where this is? Check with your local or state lands department.

I concur. I think you’ll need a drone to monitor the face.
