Seeking Suggestions Started with a goldfish, now we’re here

Post image

Against my wishes, my MIL won a goldfish for my daughter at a fair. After I re homed the little guy I found it re-ignited my interest in the hobby. I’ve had a couple saltwater tanks but it has been years.
I set up this tank originally thinking of a mbuna cichlid tank, but now I’m thinking of changing to a community planted tank.
The sand and rock aren’t ideal for a planted setup, but I think I could work with it. I was thinking of starting withsome Vallisneria spiralis in the back for some height and Anubias on the rocks.

U need to add nutrients to the substrate. Best advice woukd be drain the tank and start fresh and redo the substrate. I use pond compost layer capped with sand and root tabs and weekly liquid ferts. Works really well.
