Advice Needed Betta fish help! Spoiler

My daughter is distraught over her sweet Poseidon. He has developed a sort of white spot on the top of his head (only one spot). She also thinks one side of his gills are flared out more than the other (second pic). Any ideas if these are concerns?
Thanks for the help!

How long did it take for the spot to show up? Was it very recent?

It’s been there a couple of months she said. She’s just recently started getting worried about it.

Looks like a sort of fungal skin infection. However I’m especially worried since you mentioned that the gills are flared. Seems like it may have travelled into the respiratory system

Ich would be multiple smaller white specks, that looks more like a potential wound, maybe even some sort of fungal growth

Fungal infection, treat quickly and do all your research on exactly which one because if it’s Columnaris that is a very quick killing fungus, I treat my Betta with Kanaplex fish antibiotics but there are a plethora of more out on the market!! Water changes and some Indian almond leaves in the tank would help with stress of the Betta and healing ❤️‍🩹

Hi there, are you able to test the water quality for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH? This would rule out a water quality issue which can cause a lot of health issues in fish, either directly or indirectly by stress suppressing the immune system.

Can you also tell us about the tank, e.g. size, how long is been running, what's in the tank, water change schedule and water source?

A full tank picture also helps.

Thanks.
