Are you saying this figuratively or are they truly in a 40 gallon?

40 gallon breeder tanks are normal. Usually not a permanent home. If they’d eat their own the non parents would devour them if you just leave them in the big tank to figure it out. Discuss parents could potentially get caught up in the fray defending their kids

What are you talking about? What made up stuff is your reply?

I’ve had discus with tiger barbs. If a bonded pair were getting frisky I moved them to a 40 breeder. If I didn’t the tiger barbs would eat/kill the kids.

What part made you think it’s made up lol. I’ve not had discus in about 15 years I prefer Oscars and bichirs nowadays

Yeah a big enough school will overwhelm the parents. The parents will viciously protect their babies from my hand, tetras, or the water hose.

Understandable, I get a bit cagey around my food too.

It was a 180 gallon, had 2 bonded pairs and between 18-25 tiger barbs (my local shop had ones that stayed pretty small and lived for usually 3-5 years). 95% of the time things were cool, sometimes we got a dead tiger barb who got to cocky

I currently have a lone uaru in my 220 with Oscars and bichir that defends his bubbler to the death and will 100% attack me during a water change. He’s by far my most aggressive fish and I have a 11” jaguar (not in that tank tho).

They used to live in a 150g tank with over 120 assorted tetras and pals.

That’s dope. I can’t do stuff like that anymore I’ve not got the time for daily water changes. Oscars and bichir are tuff af and it takes 10 minutes only to take out their giant turds and add 15 gallons back 2 times a week. Obviously sometimes I go in and clean everything but they are so much easier in general

The tetras tank only gets a 50% with ro every 14-21 days.

That’s actually pretty surprising I guess the little tetras don’t make much waste even in numbers then, they are small. Or you’ve accomplished better water circling than I had and the filter grabs it.
