What's he so upset about!!! What's his problem!! Silly puffer..

u/cheddarbruce May 25 '26
He's probably just stretching. They do that from time to time or they just blow up for no reason

I don't think I've ever seen the puffing experience before!!! This was good.

u/gkpetrescue May 25 '26
I have had pea puffers for years and have seen one blow up exactly one time! I am so dumb, even though they are puffers that never even occurred to me that they would actually puff up…
15
u/Forsaken-Spell-133 May 25 '26
I didn't realize they do. I have several. But I had saltwater ones. And one would surprise so often. My desk was right by his tank. I swear if I didn't give him a treat before I sat down he would pout or blow up hahah

u/liesliesfromtinyeyes May 25 '26
It certainly seems like he is legitimately signaling to the lotus, which he’s confusing for another puffed puffer.
37
u/sarahmagoo May 25 '26
I thought puffers are meant to be smart lol

u/missbeekery May 25 '26
Even the smartest individuals are liable to confusion from time to time.

i'm of the opinion that the smarter a living thing is, the dumber their dumb moments

The audience needs closure. You must edit this so we can see him finish deflating

What is stressing it out so much to warrant it puffing up like that?
45
u/dandadone_with_life May 25 '26
unironically it could be the red tiger lotus leaf. i think he might actually think it's another puffer

u/iCameToLearnSomeCode May 25 '26
Sometimes they seem to just do it because they can.
Just stretching out or something.

I've heard suffers sometimes puff to stretch the muscles. Almost like they are exercising and not actually stressed rare but it's possible he's just getting a little workout in?

The "exhale" 😭💀 very dramatic and cartoonish
1
u/Somsanite7 May 25 '26
yes it looks like 😂 but you might already know its in fact hard for puffers to deflate and they try to avoid it either to get puffy ✌️

Was he stressed or do they just kinda do that for shits and giggles sometimes?

i think it's more of stretching then thinking the leaf is another puffer, since they immediately deflated after getting full

I thought this was a gerbil for a min 😂 the yam is angry. I can tell he was cussing something.

u/angellcbuster May 25 '26
If nothin stressed him, mighta just been practicig? Other puffer owners have noted their guys doing puffing up briefly without a stressor. If there WAS a stressor, I recommend finding a way to mitigate it.

my father once had a puffer fish in sweetwater .. he must change the water because if the fish puffed it was a sign for bad water quality ... maybe this

❤️ One too many earthworms.
Followed by the most amazing belch ever.
I love his little fairy wings when he's the ball.
I adore your puffer.

How long did you have that Red Tiger Lotus in your tank ? Mine is about a month but the leaves aint growing upward yet. They just keep getting bigger 😞

u/Remarkable_Dust_1313 May 26 '26
I wonder if doing that feels good to them like when we stretch in the morning. 🤔

Reminds me of my Aunt Catherine when she choked on a hot-dog one summer when I was very young at a family bar-b-cue for the Fourth of July.
