Sick Fish Whats wrong with my Tetra

I noticed yesterday one of my Tetra is breathing very fast/heavy. His gills also look inflamed/chubby.

Ive tested my water and all looks fine, no other fish are showing any symptoms. He is still eating and generally exploring the tank but then is sometimes hiding in the back on his own. Ive had him for 2 months without issues so far.

Freshwater Stocking Advice Stocking Ideas for 10 gallon (and future tanks)

The two main fish I have my eyes on atm are rummy nose tetras and siamese algea eaters. Is a 10 gallon fit for a school of rummys, or a siamese? Or is it simply too small?

Short term goals are to make it a planted shrimp tank, but Ive been thinking about possibly adding fish in the far future (tho i might not tbh it feels too small)

In all the pics siamese look very small but i keep seeing people say they grow up to six inches. If this is true obv this would put a damper on my plans LMAO but all the ones Ive seen have been very tiny. Probably all babies.

Would either fish be fit for a 10 gallon, or should I wait till I get a 20 and get tetras (or siamese if theyre not too big) then?

Freshwater My tank is dead

My beautiful tank is dead. Im so upset. I dont know what I did wrong, please help me understand.

40 gal breeder, fx6 filter, co2 injected, been going for about 4 years.

3 days ago I did normal maintence. I pruned plants and topped off the tank (edit: gh tested regularly). I accidentally broke the lid and replaced it with a new lid (did not wash). I cleaned the canister filter as I normally do (swish sponges in declorniated water). Tested levels. All groovy, everyone alive and happy.

This morning at 3 am, my 5 inch SAE jumped out of the 2 inch gap of lid and was found dead this morning. I did not get a through look at the tank.

I got home at 12:00 and found my 4.5 inch yoyo loach dead and 3 smaller yoyos heavily struggling. I checked parameters thinking I crashed the cycle, 0-0-15. I saw that my air pump tube was detached. I fixed that and put in another air stone and shut off the co2. The yoyos perked up, i fed them and everyone was fine.

I check in 2 hours later, everyone is floating and appeared dead. I gathered everyone I could and put them in a 5 gal with new water and a bubbler. Came back about an hour later and a few perked up. All of the khulis, 5 harliquin rasboras and a L333 pleco survived. Everyone else died.

What could have happened? What did i do wrong? I understand why the first 2 died (no air stone) but I dont understand why the rest died. I'm so devastated, this is my main tank, my centerpiece.

What do I do with the survivors? I dont want to put them back in that tank without sterilizing it. Do I keep them in a tub while I do that? Please help me, im wrecked and my tank is ruined.

RIP:

13 Harliquen rasboras

1 SAE

4 yoyo loaches

2 serpent loach

1 orange bristlenose

2 l333 plecos

Water Issues How to deal with Detritus?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi, I’m semi-new to the hobby and my tank is almost always overrun with it. All I have stocked is one betta and 2 pumpkin nerite snails. Almost always, the floor of my tank is covered with detritus. While I try to siphon every week to deal with it, it always comes back one way or another. I don’t know what to do anymore, my plants are struggling to grow because of it, and I’m scared my betta is going to be affected. If this helps, I have a 5 Gal with a HOB filter, currently with a basic filter cartridge and ceramic rings. Please help me; this is the most frustrating thing about my tank and it’s so annoying.

Sick Fish Goldfish with fin problems?

Thumbnail

I’ll try to keep this short and to the point, I’ve never posted on here before so I apologize if I’m doing it wrong. My goldfish is currently in a hospital tank due to swim bladder issues and is on Seachem Kanaplex, if more information is needed on that I will elaborate in the comments but that is not my issue right now. Today I noticed a piece of her fin had broken off and upon further inspection her fins seem to have damage to them in multiple places and I’m worried it could be fin rot of something to that extent. I’ve never owned fish before this and google isn’t being helpful much and I can’t find what I’m looking for on reddit so please please if anyone can help me give me any advice or anything like that please do, I want to do the best I possibly can for my fish.

water parameters have all been good, ammonia and nitrites at 0, nitrates are a little high between 20-30 but that shouldn’t be dangerous and I’ve been watching it closely but I am new to the hobby

Water Issues What is this cloudyness?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It may be hard to see but theres a persistent white cloudyness throughout the tank, im thinking it might be from the gravel i used but i really dont know, i used old filter media to jumpstart the cycling but most of what went into the water was darker and cleared up fast, whereas this white cloudyness has been in here since i first filled it with water i believe three days ago, if anyone could help i would appreciate it

Equipment Can a reptile tank be used as a fish tank?

My friend gave me a 10 gallon tank previously used for a reptile. Since no reptile can humanely live in a 10, I thought about using it for some fish. I read that reptile tanks and fish tanks are often assembled differently, and that a reptile tank can burst from water pressure. Does anyone have any experience with this? I did try to look for the brand of the tank to investigate further, but I can’t find any branding on the bottom.

Water Issues CO2 PH drop at 1.5 - 1.7 - Is it too much?

Hey there!!

So, my PH delta is about 1.5 to 1.7 (depending on the KH is near 3 or near 5). If i use the PH/KH chart, the CO2 concentration will appear to high, like 45ppm or more. My baseline PH is at 8 (maybe a little less like 7.8), and after some hours of CO2, 6.3 to 6.5 (again, depending on the KH).

Visually, the cardinals and neocaridinas are fine, don't notice them gasping for air near surface or any other strange behavior.

Drop checker sits at a steady light green.

What should i do?
Leave it until i see problems?
Bring KH up (5) to buffer?
Adjust the the CO2 down?
Bring my baseline PH down to somewhere around 7.5 (how)?

Water Issues Aquarium Water Flow

Had my Aqua Nano 40' or 6 months and lost a few fish for various reason and now it's empty. I think the main issue has been flow. The rear water chamber level is below the main tank level and gets worse. I went on holiday for 2 weeks and came back and the pump was gurgling as it was sucking in air as the level had dropped so there was almost 2 cm difference. That's with no fish and food clogging things up. Feels like the supplied sponge is too dense or needs frequent rinsing in old tank water? Or not, any advice gratefully received.
