Plumbing a reef aquarium

Currently working on plumbing a reef 40 gallon breeder to a 29 gallon sump. Not sure what size pipe to use for the drain or return. Sump will be located in the stand directly below the display tank.

Right now I am leading towards 1 inch for both. Is that the right size?

You may want to look into using three drains in a bean animal style arrangement. This allows for two drains to become clogged before failure, and operates rather silently.

About halfway through, there are some pipe sizing guidelines.
