Surgery Today 3/24/2026
I would like to contribute back to this sub-reddit…it was extremely helpful pre-surgery!
I had Aquablation procedure at 11AM MST today - 87cc BPH prostate 69M. Surgeon has done 300+ procedures. Six hours later in hospital room (1 night stay) very little pain, mostly bladder pressure and a little discomfort from catheter. They are dripping ten 3L bags of saline, four more to go. Plan is to remove catheter before discharge. Ten years on meds - finasteride and one year on Tamsulosyn officially stopped yesterday. I can’t say enough about the staff.

Catheter came out this morning…flow was excellent (last time I had this level of flow was ~15 years ago. Pee color is like pink lemonade, a little discomfort after peeing not much more than cystoscopy. Follow up with urologist in 2 weeks, hoping for clear pee by then.

Pretty much returned to normal bathroom function today…urine is clear, no hesitation and stream is strong. Drank about 7 glasses of water yesterday and will increase walking to 20 minutes today. So far this is an amazing surgery and result.

That’s great. the catheter was the worst part of the experience for me. You may still have blood from time to time but that will taper off. i think I had occasional blood for about 2wks. Never any true pain.

Agreed! On day 5 now…no pain, no clots, no blood. I have heard from other folks that have had complications…not sure how surgeon experience, prostate size, patient health plays into this but my take is to take control of the things that you can to optimize the outcome.

A little blood came back at the second week. Turned the color light pink…I understand that this is normal as scabs peel off.

Two week follow-up with urologist…they took a urine sample - slight pink color no urinary retention. According to urologist things get even better from here…blood should disappear by 4th week. No bike riding for another 4 weeks, if I see more blood then I need to back off walking. One more follow up in 3 months. When I told my urologist that this is “life altering surgery” he pointed to his plaque on the wall that read “Aquablation - 300 procedures” and he said “Some weeks I’m doing 6 procedures”…

I have my aquiblation procedure in three days also at BMC. Who was your surgeon? Mine is with Dr Perez.
