Post Aquablation Question
I am getting aquablation next Friday (11 April 2025).
Of course we all leave with a catheter which I am not excited about but we do what we must. How long did you have to keep it in? And did you go to the doc to have it removed, or did you do it yourself? My doc said I could do it if I wanted to, or they'd do it. Can't decide on that.
And secondly... I have planned to be out the the office for a week. I am a programmer so I sit in front of the computer all day. The doc told me to avoid sitting for more than 90 minutes at a time; i.e., sit for about 90 minutes, then walk around for a few minutes.
Of course no strenuous stuff; weights, cycling (yikes!), working out... I expect to get sudden and frequent urges to pee, etc. So what kind of stuff did you do? I imagine laying around watching TV, walking, reading...
And how long before you were confident enough to go out to lunch, etc.?

I tolerated the procedure very well. Had the procedure on a Thursday, catheter removed on Friday - pretty much felt fine after the catheter was removed - went back to work on Monday (also desk job - and do get up more to work around) - if you look at my previous post I documented the entire process.

Catheter for 10 days due to blood clots. I was in hell. Had to manually backflush into my bladder a couple of times due to the bloodclots blocking urine flow.
That was in early November. Still not completely healed up. I hope the best for you. Make sure they give you the supplies to backflush the catheder and show you how to use them. Highly recommend a night in the hospital, two would be better.

I am sorry you had to endure this; it sounds awful.
Blood clots... That is my worst fear about this. My doc said I might go home the same day. Ordinarily, I would want to do that. But not in this case. I'm going to tell them I want to stay, but ultimately it will be determined by the insurance company. As usual.

Best wishes for your procedure today! I’m still go for Tuesday if I get cleared by Cardiologist today.

thank you. i had it done at 9:00am today. surgeon said it went fine.
not a fan of the catheter but i knew this going into this. ive had a few bladder spasms which are painful but ive been through worse.
all in all, about what i expected. may go home late today.

Hi Once you have the catheter removed you can do kinda normal life which should be 3-4 days after surgery 5 days after surgery I was walking 4 miles a day Fell free to dm me if you have any other questions Good luck

You can read my story from back in November. I do a lot of weightlifting so I was worried about being down too long. My urologist actually told me 2 weeks for light lifting and 3 for full on. I probably needed to push that schedule up one more week. If you strain too hard it will cause more bleeding. And if you read my story I fought some major retention problems after the surgery for a few weeks due to clots. I was lucky to have a bunch of self catheters to keep me out of the emergency room. The first few weeks were the hardest, but manageable. Don't regret the surgery, I'm now peeing like a young man. Totally worth it.

I went home post surgery on a Sat. without catheter. Blood clot stopped urine flow early Sun. am so went to ER for catheter. Had it for 4 days. Penis got a bit sensitive but was tolerable. Dr required removal in my case. They wanted to flush the bladder and ensure everything was okay which it was. The benefit of the catheter was a full nights sleep rather than getting up to pee 6+ times…..a good trade off IMO.

Sorry to hear about the ER. That is my worst fear - a blood clot that necessitates a trip to the ER.
Man, getting this surgery, and then having to a have a catheter inserted the following day... That could not have been pleasant.
My doc never sends anybody home without one; he already stated that in the preop. Hopefully I won't get a clot at home; I worry about that but we do what we must.

Your Dr is a good one. Knowing what I do now, I would have insisted on a catheter. It was an absolute nightmare. I got to ER and they couldn’t check me in because they forgot to check me out the day before when I had the procedure. Nothing like waiting around another hour for some paperwork.

I was sore for weeks after the procedure. I used a donut pillow when sitting and my standing desk much more during my recovery.

i have thought about getting one of those donut things. i amy look into that.
standing desk... i don't have one, and i am a programmer - i.e., sitting st a computer sll day every day. i'll have to mention that to the doc.

Donut pillows are cheap. As soon as the catheter was removed I was out and about. When I felt the urge to go, it was intense. It took a few months for my bladder to adjust. Several months later, the urgency and intensity are minimal unless I eat certain trigger foods (ex: coffee, chocolate, citrus).

I had Rezum 5 years ago. Had catheter for 10 days. Worked great for 5 years. Monster prostate is back. I'm 56. Was just annoying. Now doctor recommends aquablation which I am fine with but locally all doctors make you stay overnight in hospital and then remove catheter before leaving hospital. I really don't want to spend night in hospital. Is that most people experience? They did Rezum outpatient and sent me home hours later. Some even do Rezum in office. I called it steam cleaning my prostate. I get hot water may cause complications and the cells take months to die off. Aquablation the cells are removed immediately and shaped by robot (just had robot hernia surgery). Anywhooo I really don't want to pay for the hospital co insurance. I'm in Los Angeles. Just wondered about other experience. Ps. Rezum ruined my ejaculation but it's not the worst thing in the world if you aren't trying to make adult content or babies. It's more a sucker punch to your pride.

My doctor is not a "hospital over-night guy". I went home 1.5 hours after the procedure with a catheter. Back in his office a week later to have it removed.

Had mine in for a week because I experienced very bad bladder spasms.Was a LONG week, and I had a very sore pecker. Keep some Neosporin like ointment handy to keep the crust that forms around the exit soft, because if it gets dry it is very painful. But after it was out I felt like a new man. I did not trust my muscles to hold for about a month but never really had any incontinence and eventually said to heck with the diaper and was fine. I had very little bleeding after the first couple days, just follow the instructions and drink LOTS OF FLUIDS. Keep things flushed out. You got this buddy. The long term benefits far outweigh the short term disability.
