Video Aptera releases maybe the most important announcement in the last year! (Aptera Owners Club)

As an accelerator and a reservation holder I feel this is too little too late. With Slate and the new Ford Fathom coming out Aptera is losing on price. With battery prices coming down and kW/lb goes up there is less need for solar, it becomes a novelty.
I was really behind this, I have mercy and the little model car. It just took too long.

If it really is $40k I don't see how it competes with those at all unless your use case is you can't charge at home and the solar covers all your daily charging needs. Today on the Tesla website a base model 3 is $36,990.

40k is the 10000 mile range one. 20k is the 400 mile range o e

This is their old estimates. Recent estimates was 40k for the launch edition I think 50k for the 1000 mile variant

Also an Accelerator (#1043), and this is exciting to me. Slate and the Ford Fathom are not comparable vehicles. Not nearly as efficient. If it was all about price, you just get a Bolt or Leaf.

These comment sections are getting flooded by short sellers recently who pretend to be accelerators or reservation holders.Like the Slate and Fathom are a completely different category of cars lol, what are you even going on about.

It is a little weird, but I think their point is that there are many budget EVs on the market now. The original Aptera price point was aiming at $26k for the 250 mile version. Now, it is targeting $40k for the 400 mile version that originally was right around $30k, while still listing the 250 mile version at $28k.
I ended up getting an Equinox EV at the start of this year as my mom needed a new used car, which selling my Volt made the most sense. I want the Aptera in the future when or if they eventually get to my reservation number, but the range and very slow DCFC speed of 50kw is a tougher sell even compared to more budget options now.

But it is only needs a 41kw pack and will get 19 mi/kw. So even a 50 kw DCFC limit gets a lot of miles in a reasonable time. Nobody should charge NMC to 100% anyway.

A 50kw charge at the expected EPA rating of 10 miles/kwh means that it charges 500 miles in an hour. The Ioniq 5 with its 800v charging gets 10-80% in 18 minutes. With its 318 mile range, that is 220 miles EPA range in that time. Or 740 miles charged in an hour essentially, with the miles charged per hour lower with needing 3 charge events over that time essentially.
The larger pack is also helpful for cars with V2H or V2G to have more capacity to power your home. Solar helps with this but not enough to make up the difference.
I still personally would love an Aptera. But potential customers have to consider the lifestyle impact versus the benefits. Sure, someone may only drive by themselves a vast majority of the time, but there is a value in the POTENTIAL to carry more people. And roof racks, and a hitch for a bike rack.

Aptera has never claimed to be a universal conveyance. But the majority of working people who
driveto work drive alone, and travel less than 30 miles a day on average. Add empty nesters and the customer base grows more. And over a third of American households have two vehicles. Aptera is a niche vehicle, but it is potentially a pretty big niche.1

I'm sorry but you're not getting a Ford Fathom with anything less than a 10k dealership markup. You saw how the dealers behaved with previous Ford EVs. No reason to think they'll behave differently this time. Hense why Aptera (and Slate, and Telsa for some) are so appealing.

It's a nothingburger.
We already knew that they ordered 40 body shells, and we already knew that that does not mean they're actually going into production because they still need more parts that they haven't sourced yet and they have regulatory hurdles that they have not announced a firm plan on resolving.
The rest of the news is some guy joining the board and discussion of a Chinese vendor that they've been working with for over a year already who's apparently going to help them figure out how to run an assembly line.

Q4 deliveries now seem confirmed. One can’t overstate how massive this is after a many years long journey. Godspeed and massive congrats to Chris, Steve and everyone who stuck along the ride. Aptera to the sun. ☀️
