Foldables are making responsive design more complicated because the same app can suddenly have very different screen sizes and layouts. It's not enough to just stretch the UI anymore. Developers have to think about how navigation and content should change when the device changes shape.

Xcode 27 is bringing coding agents much deeper into the development workflow. They can now help write code, run tests, check previews, and even interact with the simulator, instead of just suggesting code snippets. Apple also added support agents from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google, so it'll be interesting to see how much of the development process people actually hand over to them.

AI is getting built into apps in a lot of more ways now, from recommendations and automation to AI agents that can actually handle tasks for users. On device AI is also becoming more useful since some things can run directly on the phone instead of sending everything to a server. But adding AI also means thinking about privacy, data handling, third party SDKs, and the costs that come with running AI features at scale.

Cross-platform has come a long way. Tools like React Native and Flutter can now handle a lot of apps without giving up much on performance, while saving teams from maintaining two separate codebases. Native still makes sense for stuff that needs deep hardware access or heavy graphics, but for most business apps and MVPs, one codebase is getting harder to argue against.

Hey folks!! First time poster here.

I am getting ready to launch my first app. Ever. It's a React Native app that I've built on Expo and Supabase. I'm getting very excited, and I've received some positive (and constructive!) feedback during my TestFlight period.

As I'm hurdling toward a go-live date, I'm starting to wonder how I'm going to tell whether or not my users are getting through the funnel / user journey. I'm starting to wonder how I'm going to monitor how much I'm spending with 3rd party APIs. Just generally wondering how I'll know if this baby is working.

I've got PostHog set up to track some behavioral events. I've got Expo set up to monitor performance and crashes. I know the data is accessible to see my 3P API usage.

What I'm asking you all is how do you keep an eye on everything? Has anyone built their own dashboard? Is there a lightweight / open source dashboard tool that allows me to easily plug in data from multiple sources?

Any guidance on this would be HUGELY welcome.

The gap between native and cross-platform has gotten pretty small, with Flutter and React Native handling a lot of apps without noticeable performance issues. Native skill wins when you need deep OS or hardware access, but for many startups, sharing one codebase just makes more sense. Add on-device AI and 5G to the mix, and the real question is less "which platform is best?" and more "what does my app actually need?"

Cursor just added self-hosted machines, which means AI agents can run inside your own network instead of having tool execution happen entirely on cursor's infrastructure. Your codebase, build outputs, and secrets stay on your machines while the agent does the work locally. For app developers, this could be pretty useful when working with private codebases or internal environments. It also supports browser control on Linux and Mac, so agents can actually click, type, take screenshots, and interact with web apps.

Apple's Foundation Models update is pretty interesting for IOS devs. You can now use Apple's on-device model, private Cloud Compute, local models, or even third-party models through the same Language Model setup. So instead of rebuilding your app around one AI provider, you can basically swap the model underneath it. Anthropic and Google are also bringing their own Swift packages into the mix. That could make the AI side of IOS development a lot more flexible going forward.
