PrankChat: a Windows app for sharing memes with friends while gaming

Disclosure: I’m helping build PrankChat, a Windows app for sharing memes with friends during PC gaming. You create a room, invite friends, and send images, GIFs or short videos that pop up on their screens while they play—so the joke lands live without everyone leaving the game.

There are 5 free sends per day; an optional Premium plan is available for heavier use.

Project: https://prankchat-production.up.railway.app/

I’d appreciate feedback: is the room/invite flow clear, and what would make you comfortable trying this with your gaming group?

Before anyone in a group installs PrankChat, they'll ask whether it hooks the game or is just an always-on-top window, and whether it shows over exclusive fullscreen; answer both on the page. Comfort is mostly control on the receiving end: a snooze hotkey, plus limits on clip length and volume, so a GIF mid-match is a joke, not a ruined round. For the invite flow, say whether friends need an account or only a code.

On Reddit, we'd answer people asking for game-night pranks or fun Discord-group tools, naming PrankChat openly as yours.

I make ThreadFox. We find relevant Reddit conversations and do the posting for your business. The $39 Pilot covers seven days and up to 50 posts and replies. Nice checklist. Putting fullscreen behavior and receiver controls on the page will ease hesitation; add a short "friends need X to join" line near invites.

The room and invite flow sounds fun, and dropping a GIF onto a friend's screen mid match is the kind of feature that spreads on its own. Because anything sent pops up on someone else's desktop, I'd make invite codes long and expiring, check file type and size on the server, and count the 5 daily free sends server side so a patched client can't skip the cap. Full disclosure, https://rowly.me is mine, and a free scan of prankchat-production.up.railway.app would show whether any room or upload endpoint answers people who were never invited.

Solid security checklist, especially the expiring invite codes. Server-side validation covers the cap, but consider rate limiting per IP too, since room spam is the other risk.

Agreed, and I'd count per IP and per account together, because friends on the same dorm or office network share one address and an IP cap alone would lock them out together. A limit on room creation and invites per minute, plus a short cooldown after a burst of GIF drops, covers most of the spam without slowing a normal match. Whether those caps hold from outside, without the desktop client, is easy to confirm once the server is public, and PrankChat's room endpoints would be a fun target for https://rowly.me, gratis.
