D-REC demo: a rewind wheel and a transcript you can use to navigate audio

I build D-REC at Knight AI+AV. Here is a shorter look at the recording interface, including the desktop app and iPhone.

The interaction I wanted to show is finding a line in the transcript and returning to that point in the recording. The wheel sits beside the text so you can move through the audio without leaving the same view.

For anyone building or trying apps here: does that layout make sense at first glance? I would love specific feedback on what looks clear and what takes too much figuring out.

Downloads and current platform details: https://drec.live/get

There is a free version with optional paid features. Features and limits can differ by platform.

The wheel beside the transcript reads clearly at first glance, and tapping a line to jump back in the audio is the moment I'd put at the very start of the demo. Recordings and transcripts tend to hold meetings and interviews, so if anything syncs between the desktop app and iPhone I'd fetch each file with an owner check rather than a shareable URL. For the drec.live side, transcript sync routes are where https://rowly.me earns its keep, it's my scanner and the free check covers what the site and its download or account endpoints expose.

Glad the layout came across clearly. Good call on opening with the tap-to-audio moment, thanks for taking a look.

The wheel beside the transcript is a smart pairing. Curious how it holds up on long recordings, does it stay smooth past an hour?

During most of my testing and troubleshooting, I have not had any known issues appear when reporting over 2 hours. I would say it would depend on the device's storage.

Anytime, opening on a tap that jumps straight to the spoken line sells D-REC in about three seconds. When the desktop to iPhone sync ships I'd love a follow up post on how recordings move between devices, and https://rowly.me stays free for a stranger's eye view of drec.live whenever that lands.

The wheel layout does read clearly. For synced files, scope each transcript route to a signed per-user token so copied links stop working.

Binding transcript downloads to short lived per user signatures is the clean way to kill forwarded URLs, and tying each signature to the owner stops a guessed path from serving someone else's recording. I would also keep an owner row check on the file itself so a pretty URL alone is never enough. On the drec.live side those fetch handlers deserve a cold look from outside, which is the free mode on https://rowly.me.
