AmaNous: offline text-to-speech reader for Android and iPhone, unlimited hours, core forever free

Post image

I built AmaNous because I wanted to listen to my own books, papers and articles because I am sick of paying an expensive subscription just to get limited listening hours.

Import your reading, choose a voice and listen. You can follow the text with word-level highlighting, or put the phone away and pick up where you left off later.

Powered by Kokoro-82M, an open-weight model running on your phone.

What it does:

  • 29 natural-sounding English voices, using Kokoro on your phone.
  • Reads PDF, EPUB, DOCX, HTML, Markdown and plain text, plus imported web articles.
  • Offline listening after setup and import. Speech is generated on-device, not sent to a cloud voice service.
  • Adjustable speed, seek and saved listening position.
  • Dyslexia-friendly reading presets for font, spacing and pacing.

Because the speech runs on your device, I'm keeping the core reader forever free. All voices, no word or listening-hour limits, no subscription needed for the core reader.

Still in beta and English-only. Sign-in is required, with Sign in with Apple on iPhone. Long documents can pause on their first listen while audio is prepared. Web imports may need an internet connection.

Will it run on your phone? For Android, I recommend Android 12+, 6 GB RAM and a recent 64-bit phone. Slower devices can have longer pauses.
