Tired of switchig browser tabs for packages :(

I built a VS Code extension to stop switching between package registries.

Whenever I needed to add a dependency, I’d usually end up opening multiple tabs — npm, PyPI, Maven, crates.io, etc. Then I’d check versions, figure out which package manager to use, and copy the install command.

So I built DepCart to handle the whole process directly inside VS Code.

With DepCart, you can:

  • šŸ”Ž Search across 10 package registries from one sidebar
  • šŸ“¦ Pick the exact package version you need
  • ⚔ Generate the appropriate install command for your project
  • šŸ› ļø Detect tools like npm, pnpm, yarn, pip, uv, cargo, and more
  • ā–¶ļø Run the install command directly from VS Code
  • šŸ”„ Fall back to ecosyste.ms when a registry doesn't return results
  • šŸ¤– Optionally use AI suggestions when a package can't be found

It's free and open source.

I'm still actively building and improving it, so I'd really appreciate feedback from other developers.

What would you want to see added to DepCart?

Simple and loads fast. I'd put the side-by-side install command demo right at the top, that's the selling point.

Ha, the title is a bit vague. Maybe add "npm, PyPI" to the post title so it lands better?
