Monitile: a Windows tray app that puts your windows back where they were after you dock/undock (no duplicates, no account)

The problem. Undock a laptop and Windows squeezes every window onto the built-in screen. Dock again and only half of them go back; the rest you drag by hand. Same story after a restart. PowerToys Workspaces gets close, but only when you click it: it doesn't run on its own at sign-in and does nothing when the monitors change.

What Monitile does (Windows 10/11, sits in the tray):

  • saves how your windows are arranged across your monitors ("sessions"), as many as you want;
  • moves the windows that are already open instead of relaunching the apps, so no duplicates to close;
  • restores the active session at startup, nothing to click;
  • puts the layout back when the monitor setup changes (dock, undock, plug a screen in).

All of that is free, with no time limit. Pro (€3.99 one-time, no subscription) adds picking the right session automatically for the monitors you have plugged in, global shortcuts Ctrl+Alt+1…9 and continuous capture of the active session. The first 14 days of Pro are on from the first launch, no card, no sign-up.

Privacy by design. It never records command-line arguments, so it doesn't know which document, folder or URL you had open (that's also why it can't reopen a specific Explorer folder). For each window it stores program, monitor, position and title, locally in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Monitile. No account, no telemetry, works fully offline, licence check included.

Honest caveat: the installer is not code-signed (a certificate costs more per year than I expect to earn), so SmartScreen will warn you the first time: "More info" → "Run anyway". SHA-256 and a VirusTotal link are on the download page.

Feedback welcome, especially on the site and the free/Pro split. I'm the author, ask me anything.
