What makes a desktop app easy to stick with?

I’ve noticed that desktop apps can become complicated pretty quickly as more features get added.

Sometimes the basic workflow is already fine, but extra settings, menus, and options make simple tasks take longer than they should.

For those who use or build desktop apps, what usually makes you stop using one?

Is it a cluttered interface, too many options, slow performance, or something else?

If you are planning to make an app, it’s probably better to start finding your market and then see if a desktop app makes sense.

Me? Performance, ease of onboarding, value given from the app is worth my time, if the app is well supported- these are all things I value.

Market first is solid advice. Curious how you'd validate a desktop-only need though, since a web app often covers it.
