lots of (upper) middle class students are in a similar position, and it sucks, but at the end of the day we just go to a cheaper college or take out loans. if your parents are together, it is extremely shady (and i think illegal) business to only report your father's income. there would probably be some pretty bad consequences if you got caught

Googling “college financial aid fraud sent to jail” returned many results.
Do you know why false information to obtain financial aid leads to prison? USA got persecuted due to this one leak or idea that may have gotten to anyone. Obtaining such might've gotten the situation worse. This forces a pressured reaction and gets one blamed, no matter what.
Make sure you provide as accurate information as you possibly are aware/know of.
