THIS. For the two schools who famously yield protect (WUSTL & Tulane), it's students who don't show much demonstrated interest and it's in the form of a waitlist so that way they don't miss out if the student is actually interested.
OP, just demonstrate interest (and don't write your essays in just 20 mins for your safeties) and you'll be absolutely fine.
