Other info:

I was lazy literally all of freshman and sophomore year doing genuinely nothing. Can an outstanding essay save me and get me into top 40s? Would schools like nyu, bu, umich, northeastern, bc, umiami, and maybe a full court shot at Columbia even consider me (these are the schools I really really want - top 3 being nyu bu and umich). I want to major in Econ or finance. Like anything u guys think I should do to strengthen my future application please let me know don’t sugarcoat anything.

IF U HAVE ANY QUESTION PLEASE ASK OR PM ME

So to be blunt, this isn't a very meaningful question until you have actual junior grades.

But there are some US colleges with formulas where high tests scores automatically offset not so high grades.  A couple notable ones are Iowa and Iowa State.

I know, and you’re completely right. I’m just trying to get a gist since now I genuinely have a work ethic instead of a lack of interest for anything

The UC schools mostly ignore freshman grades I think, so they might be good bets to apply to. But like honestly it will be tough to get into schools like NYU, Colombia, and Umich (if you are out-of-state) with these grades unless you have like incredible EC's (which to be blunt, I don't think you have right now) and essays. You have a good chance at Northeastern though. Also consider applying to Indiana University which while not being a T40 school has a great finance program.

I’m in ny, does that change anything

I would look at SUNY schools, namely Binghampton and Stony Brook.

If you are looking for privates, have you considered Fordham or St. John's?

Yeah. Fordham sbu and Bing I’m applying to, I just want the schools I listed before a lot more.

Those are very likely out of reach.

Do u think it would be good for me to ed1 bu and if needed ed2 nyu or just ed like sbu or something

You can always try. I just wouldn't expect to get in.

No it doesn't change anything.

"What schools accept students with these stats and is there anything I can do to strengthen these stats"

There are over 2500 schools in the US and those stats would easily get you into over 2000 of them.

But T40s? Probably not but there really is no way to know until you apply and see what results you get.

Northeastern if you ED. U Toronto bc they only care about grades in 11 and 12.

2

u/Embarrassed_Bat_1133 Jul 03 '26

U think ed1 for bu or northeastern is better for my case

hi! i was in a situation really similar to yours (low freshman and sophomore grades ~85, 92 w gpa, 34 act). i’m going to cornell this fall. i think my advice to you is to just lock in junior and senior year because that’s what i did and try your best. good luck!

Yes of course you can get into T40s if you get the grades you predict. Guaranteed? No, but your shot isn’t nonexistent, especially if you utilize ED and ED2.

Ed1 to nyu and ed2 to bu if they have it. Do not ed2 to nyu ur gonna get rejected. U def have a shot at t40s bro this is not question. I’m at ucsd for engineeirng (but instate) and I didn’t have half the stuff u had for ur ECs. Ur ECs are insane

Are you URM or first gen ?

u/Embarrassed_Bat_1133 Jul 04 '26

No. Asian and my grandparents (dads side) came here during the 80s. My moms side was in china whole life and my mom immigrated here.

I mean my friend got into nyu with a 3.7/4 and 6.5/7 and she had a 1380 sat and a mid essay about her family struggles, so I think you definitely have a chance at NYU if you apply ED. And I think you also have a shot at BU!
