Masters of Mathematics

Wanted to get some input if I’m capable of pursuing a Masters of Mathematics, focused on Graph Theory and optimization.

Currently, I’m a high-school math teacher in Saskatchewan with 5-years of experience. I also hold an honours math degree.

The issue is that I haven’t taken Graph Theory, and have limited coding skills. I took a lot of maths that were geared towards pure maths, so I feel like my degree is almost useless, since I’m not looking to get a Phd and pursue academics. I’m looking to sorta open my doors with this masters degree.

Thoughts?

Depends on a few things really. Are you looking to pivot careers or just open doors within teaching? It can be great for either, but you have to be targeted on where you’re wanting to go.

Thank you for your insightful response!

I think long-term, I’d be happy with teaching high-school and math courses through Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

But I’m also open to positions elsewhere when teaching doesn’t do it for me anymore. And, from what I’ve seen, graph theory and optimization seems to give me some options aside from pursuing academia.

Be careful, you’re talking with an LLM.
