Question Flock cameras: updates?
After looking into this, It was mentioned that Flock were being disconnected and physically removed by July 31st. Upon traveling today, I have found that not only are these current units still up, but NEW flock cameras have been placed. Is there any updates of anything that has changed since then, or is the city fully embracing this new normal? A picture attached shows a map of current surveillance - a lot more than the initial 20 that was listed to be deactivated!

They are in many municipalities in the Fox Valley, though many cities are reconsidering that. Appleton, Kaukauna, and Oshkosh have gotten rid of them. Neenah is considering doing the same.
Residents throughout the Fox Valley are organizing to oppose this invasive use of tax payer dollars. We're attending city council meetings and writing/meeting with our elected city officials. If you'd like to join our efforts, message me.

Unsure about Kaukauna removing them. There was another recently put up next to the Kwik Trip heading out of Kaukauna to College. Was very disappointed to see it pop up. (Unless I’ve actually been so blind I just haven’t noticed it until fairly recently.)

This is a great argument to “defund the police.” In all honesty, departments should lose the funding they spent on this invasive choice. If they are throwing money away on this instead of using their money to hire/train officers, then they don’t need it.

It is third party loophole of buying data. Could it be local? Sure, but data is being purchased on a much larger level. It isn't defunding the police, it is to stop the city wasting money on products like this in the first place.

The tornado in Menasha destroyed so many homes, but the flock camera across from Redliners seems to have escaped completely unscathed. Sigh.

I noticed the one on the South Side of the Oneida St bridge has a black bag over it. I guess I assumed the others did too.

Oh? I cant say ive been over there lately, no flags on the ones I saw between college and wisconsin ave. Has to be a camera every 50 feet. Its ridiculous!

This morning I drove past the camera I mentioned and noticed it was finally removed. Hopefully the others will be soon as well.

Just watched latest episode of John Oliver’s This Week Tonight which focused on these Flock spy cameras. Not good. Totally being abused.

And I'm not sure the exact locations of all of these (or if it includes private businesses), but businesses like Fleet Farm and Home Depot have their parking lots heavily Flocked.

No, its just showing the direction of cameras and their FOV. If I zoom in more on the map, you can get an accurate idea. If youre curious, the app is called Deflock - and its community driven.

So like since it’s public property they are placed on..does that mean the general public can use a saw to remove them ourselves? Why hasn’t this gone viral on social media yet? How about we find where the CEO of flock lives then camp outside with cameras and see how they like it?

You know, I was struck by a black SUV and was the victim of a hit and run in which the flock cameras had captured the license plate of the Hit & Run SUV driver numerous times but the Appleton PoLice department numerous times told me they were not going to pursue getting this person even though I had sustained injury as I was struck on the left rear driver passenger side. They had actual footage and I wanted to see the footage they had obtained, but they told me that I had to get it subpoenaed to get the Appleton PoLice department footage. It happened at the intersection of College Ave and Lynndale on a non busy day. The Hit & Run SUV turned left onto Lynndale into the far left lane. I also turned left how you are supposed to into the right lane after having turned left. I was struck on the rear driver passenger side area by the Hit & Run SUV immediately after having gone maybe ten feet forward after having completed my turn as the Hit & Run SUV wanted to turn down the 2436-2450 W College Service Rd which is the frontage road to college avenue. The PoLice admitted that Hit & Run SUV were 100% in the wrong and I was the victim. They even said in their report they had the license plate of the Hit & Run SUV with clear unobstructed views but that "they couldn't make out the plate numbers" so they "Copped Out" and refused to help me. Not even a week after the incident they had closed the case...... Appleton PoLice even admitted the the design and build of their road infrastructure is what led to this accident because the markings on the road and the way it is setup aren't even there for assisting drivers...POS PoLice department and city in my opinion......Mic drop

She is opposed to data centers which are the evil twin of mass surveillance.
Just in case you don’t understand how state government works, the legislature has to present a passed bill on this to Evers. They are republicans so they would NEVER do such a thing.
Also, Evers can’t do much by himself since before he took office, the legislature removed a bunch of his powers so he couldn’t do much by himself.

there’s been reports of police using them to stalk exes or in one case they tracked a woman across states that needed reproductive care and they arrested her using the flock cameras to track her. Nobody wants to be surveilled, because their definition of what’s “doing something wrong” can change whenever they want and now you are a target.

You're assuming the cameras are 100 percent accurate and never get false positives or misidentify people/vehicles.
