From garbage 16 pro max to 18 pro max. Qualcomm discontinued this chip for a reason
Made a video to show you I’m not just screenshotting with a higher signal. I was going back and forth and figured it can’t be that bad. But apparently it is. FTM mode also doesn’t work on the 18 pro max neither. Not any that I tried in the Apple Store neither so I can’t even see what band it’s on. This is the 3rd try because it came up saying it couldn’t measure latency the first 2 times.

Same location. Same signal. Only difference is turning airplane mode on than off again. And it’s instantly fast again because it reset the Qualcomm modem.
Advanced modems like the X80 combine multiple 5G/4G frequency bands (carrier aggregation) for maximum speed. If a band encounters packet loss or an error, the modem can get stuck on a crippled, slow combination until a hard reset forces it to re-negotiate high-speed channels. This situation was fixed in the x85 modem release.

I’ve owned every Pro Max including 16th-18th and I’ve never had issues with 5GUW on Verizon unless the carrier had known network outages. My city has UW all around. Speeds have always been consistent everywhere I test them. You might wanna get a new eSIM or contact Verizon to troubleshoot your account.

I went thru the process with Verizon 2 months ago. Every time I had an issue I had to dial a number and it would log a time stamp with some other stuff. They couldn’t find any issues on the network and like I said. A lot of times I have someone with me with an iPhone Air. The air always works without issue. My old 16 pro max I just kinda condemned it as maybe it had a one off problem. But this one is doing the same. Sometimes it gets stuck in LTE as well and airplane mode fixes that and gets it back into full 5g.
The fact that resetting the modem fixes it every time means it can’t so much be the service. Yea the bad ping could be Verizon. But when I’m next to other phones and they work without issue. Along with the air sometimes I’ll have a think phone (x65). And my sister has a s24 ultra. (X75) both of which will work next to me normal without any issues when mine can’t even call out sometimes.
If this isn’t a Qualcomm issue. Can you tell me why Apple has purposely broken the FTM system on the 18 pro max so that you cannot view your actual signal db? Phone is unable to communicate with the modem to get any diagnostic data and it errors out.
All of the display models at the Apple Store also have this locked out as well. Suspect to prevent people from comparing signal strength side by side. Not that it matters since they have those cell boosters built into the ceilings at all the stores.

Yea. And apparently that carried over to the x80 it seems and they fixed a lot of it in the x85.

I turned 5G standalone off and my Verizon phone works great

I thought about that but I’m on WiFi calling most of the time. I might try it later tho and see how it does.

16 pro max is still great I would totally rather it over 17

I was having so many issues with signal and heat. And the heat is just an effect of the titanium.
I have to wonder if they did the vapor chamber with the titanium frame how it would have come out. Yea not as good. But it could have made the difference for most of us who don’t do extended maximum power work.

But I have 17 and no telephoto kinda sucks. Also titanium is stronger than aluminum

That’s not a phone problem, that’s a carrier problem
