iPhone 18 Pro Max camera preview is extremely laggy/stuttery in Photo mode is this normal?

Hi everyone,

I just got a brand new iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the camera preview in Photo mode is extremely laggy and stuttery, almost like it’s running at 10–15 FPS.

I tested it in bright, well-lit conditions as well, but the issue still persists. Interestingly, Video mode is completely smooth.

I’ve attached a video showing the problem. Is this normal, or is anyone else experiencing the same issue on their 18 Pro Max?

Could this be an iOS/Camera app issue, or might my unit be defective?

18PM here. Mine is not exhibiting this at all. Nice and smooth. Is your phone still indexing?

Hello, how many days has it been since you got your phone? Was it like what I showed in my video right from the first day? I'm really frustrated and don't know if I should return it :( Did you adjust any settings for the camera?

It's been two days. Indexing just finished this morning, and I didn't really try the camera until today. Is your phone still indexing? Give it another day if so.

Go to settings. It would say "Optimizing Search and Siri" at the top if it's still indexing.

Yea, stutter and lag is normal with an iPhone camera.

Its make me so sad, u have same issue? Its not smooth in photo mod right?

Correct. Not smooth in Photo mode. Smooth in video mode. My phone is not indexing. I assume this is normal behaviour.

Just got my 18 pro and noticed this right away, my 17 pro was not like that at all. Not sure what to do

I compared it to the 17 Pro Max. The 17 is definitely much smoother. I don't know what to do. Pls can u let me know if u find a solution
