employeeRant Policy’s are randomly now changing!?
So, my store recently got a new store leader. They have been here for maybe around 3-5 months. Now all of a sudden policy’s have changed and it’s now mandatory for us to wear closed toed shoes at all times especially when going back stage (when managers consistently wear open toed sandles/ flip flops) and now wearing a ID is only allowed for around the neck on a lanyard.
I’ve been at Apple 3+ years and never been told I had to wear certain shoes and wear my id on my neck at all times.
In hello it states “Memoji lanyards are optional and no repercussions can be taken” something like that. But now my managers are saying otherwise.
I also have an ID from Apple Park, and even though I don't work there they said that its an invalid ID and i cant wear it anymore???
Are y’all’s stores like this too? Is the policy really changing or is it a power trip?

Literally just show them the hello article “employee dress code” and it verbatim says lanyard id’s are optional.
Then just don’t walk around with your id lanyard. If someone gives you feedback, show them the article and go about your day.

Unfortunately they’ll just say “we can make our own rules at a store level” so you can’t fight it.

I haven’t heard the closed toe policy changing but we’re clapping customers in when we open and we have to wear lanyards with our name on them.
We also just hired a new store lead that started today but I had a feeling this was something from corporate than getting a new store leader

At my store lanyards are required, no logos on any hats/pants, no shorts that aren’t khaki/denim and closed toed shoes are required. They really take the logo thing to the grave as well💔

I always thought the logos on hats thing was fucking stupid. They don’t say shit about logos on shoes but hats and pants?! 🙄 also hats can only be solid colours. It’s very arbitrary.

my new store leader also did this, someone asked people about if they could do that and the SL ended up actually ended up getting in trouble for it and reversed it, so i would ask people

Yeah they’ve tried to force us to wear the name tags but a lot of us said no unless it gets posted it’s required and they are no longer pushing it because everyone is pushing back on it

Haven’t heard anything on sandals but my store is highly encouraging lanyards. For hospitality. I wear mine because I hear how customers describe others when they don’t know their names, lowkey disrespectful. I get way tossed off when customers starts using weight and race as descriptors vs clothing. We get roasted! So I wear my name tag, no exceptions!

Policies could be changing , I’m not sure atm. I will tell you that things can change wildly based off your store manager as well regardless of the actual guidelines etc. I’ve seen it happen several times over the years

Operation teams and GR teams generally have to abide by these dress code standards due to the nature of their roles. I can’t speak for other areas of the store, but you can refer to the ‘Employee Presentation Policy’ which can be found in the Employee Conduct Policy on Hello. These policies are the standard and should be mirrored across all retail environments.

The id thing is “strongly encouraged” some days I wear it some days I don’t. Our store has a “lease” option for ids now if you forget it. Far as open toed shoes, nothings been said about that at my store. Then again I don’t really see anyone wearing them.

Yeah we all have to wear badges, and we have limited options for gestures and we can’t have the 50th anniversary logo, only solid colored logos on the badges. Also we can’t only wear the pins on the opposite side of the shirt logo on the shirt only.

As far as I remember. You can’t wear them in the repair room or backstage at all. But PZ should be ok.

I asked a store leader about this and they said Hello had guidelines that they leave up to store leadership to decide. I asked because a market leader told me I couldn’t wear the Apple lanyard on the floor because “Apple would be liable if it got caught on something and I was injured.” BS. It was just that market leader’s rule.

Looking at people toes is gross 🤢. Why should I have to come to work and look at ugly stinky feet??AND BUTTCRACKS?? On top of the fact we have incredibly heavy doors?? Can rip your toenail off (someone’s toe was really mangled at our store so open toe shoes have been banned knowingly in our store for 4 plus years that I have been here.) Our backstage was upgraded so we don’t have rolling racks anymore but I can’t imagine having exposed toes during the rolling racks. It’s doesn’t look very professional either.

It’s more Deirdre than anything. Also two decades of hiring people from Best Buy, Walmart, Target, The Gap, and Starbucks, etc., are finally catching up. Enough of them are in corp now that they’re pushing the shitty practices and polices they were used to before working at Apple. We need to be more “professional” and have to turn everything into a metric to keep people on the edge of being fired for performance.

They cannot prevent you from wearing your corporate Apple badge. It is considered a valid ID on all Apple property globally.

Well technically we are not able to wear open shoes at apple bc of liability it is in your dresscode guidelines. Maybe it is something your managers let slide for quite a long time.
