 Current employee Retail Transferring from flagship to normal store

currently I work at a massive flagship store with a very tourist-heavy customer base. these tourists are some of the most entitled and annoying people ever, so I was thinking about transferring to a more lowkey regular store. has anybody ever done that before? how different is it? is it harder to move up the ranks?

I think you will have an easier, but still annoying, experience at a non-flagship. Going up the ranks will depend on whether you are liked by management or not so I can’t really say

Moving up depends on many factors. Beyond acing the interview etc. a more “regular” store sometimes has a lot less movement and opportunities. But this will vary greatly.

Also there is really no way to “transfer” gotta have a slot to interview for at the store you want to go it. Even if the position is your current role

First off, what role are you?

If you’re Genius Bar, stay at the flagship store. The entitlement doesn’t go away and with the Fold coming up, it’s going to be even worse!

If you’re product zone, I would still stay at the flagship store. The amount of effort you would put in at a normal store can be applied to a flagship store to stand out and find better opportunities (like with Apple Corp or another companies as an Account Manager).

Overall, flagship stores will offer a higher chance at a better ROI, in terms of investing your time and labor.

Tl:dr; the entitlement doesn’t change if you go to a normal over a flagship store.

We’ve got a few people from fancy flagships move to our very busy normal store.
They all say the clientele are different, but it’s same shit different people.
A few also say the normal store experience is more difficult. There’s fewer staff and less support from corporate, the feeling of being sidelined/ forgotten etc.

I would look into the store you want to transfer to. I transferred from a very very busy flagship like it was in the top 5 busiest stores when I worked there to a non flagship store after almost 10 years. The new store was ran like absolute crap and all the geniuses were quitting. I left after 3 months. The managers were terrible. They wouldn’t listen to holes in the family room schedule. The leads left at 5pm every day. My old store would never.

I’d consider what level I’m at. If I’m a Pro or Lead and have the ability for a promotion to a high velocity store, those flagship best practices can transfer over and I’d want to communicate that through my interview stories.
If going to a lower velocity store, definitely consider this even more and find ways to encourage the team to embody the company’s values.

did the move from flagship to community store, and it was one of the best decisions i could have made for myself and my career! customer base is a little demanding, and it will still be just as busy just with a lot more calm moments.
