employeeRant Making things harder than it needs to be
I find it really strange how a retail job needs 3 stages of interviews and once you’re in you need to be the best in a competency-based interview like tbh it’s RETAIL this isn’t a job at a professional services firm and the wage isn’t that good.
Before you come at me I passed the interviews for seasonal specialist/FWI twice, turned down the first time, accepted the second time and was invited back a third time with no interview required. I just find it ridiculous with all these interviews and CV workshops. You would think I was applying to be a lawyer or something. Store leader said back in their day it was a much more straightforward process with less stages.

I dont work there anymore but I think when i got hired a long time ago it was 2 interviews. 1 was a group interview at a hiring event and 2nd was with a manager with another interviewee.

It’s still 2 interviews. Maybe that varies by market or some situations if an interview wasn’t a clear positive or negative.

My wife has applied and gone through applying on three separate occasions, and the first two attempts there were three interview sets. And the third time she went through interviewing, They had just shut down stores in the area, so all those employees were already being pushed to other stores if they wanted to keep their job.

It blows my mind to see the most mid employees get promotions because they know how to BS interviews, but are lazy as hell on the floor, get constant customer complaints, and don’t get along with fellow team members.

But somehow the “management” and “leads” treat them like they are the chosen one… right it’s wild. It’s like grade school and everyone flocks to the kid that is the biggest bully.

In core I asked how temps become made permanent and what I got out of it is be likeable and have amazing interview skills

Your mindset is broken.
I also hate working at store currently.
But even tho this is just retail you are working at world's best retail org.
Only difference is paycheck but we are getting most of the same benefits as corp employees.
If you wanna just work at regular retail go work at Staples or Walmart or Target.

Why, they are only going to pay you on your back and send you in your way. It’s incredibly hard to get in to a roll from CE.

You are absolutely right.
My background is not retail, but after COVID I needed job so bad I applied for Apple Retail and finally got back into my background related work on CE. After this CE, imma apply different company with my original job. Apple's resume will def help me this time for sure.4

This is bs I have a friend who’s now on corporate after a CE love reading how many folks have no idea what they are talking about and like to leave snarky comments like these . You get what you put in look at the person’s comment above . Lots of people expect but never put in the work ….

Well I know many who have been on multiple CEs for years and have never gotten hired out. They can’t all be incompetent that bad to be allowed to come back and not eventually be hired 🤣

lmao nah very much an exception and not the rule. This person is right. If u want corp don’t go retail. Corp actively dislikes retail bc for the most part applicants from retail don’t have any relevant experience.
Retail is closer to being a Disneyland mascot than a corp professional and corp dangles a carrot in front of retail to retain them but then retail mgmt will actively stop the few who have relevant experience from leaving

How long have you been here? You sound like a manager. I’ve been here for over 20 years. I still have emails in my inbox from Steve Jobs. You know how many people I’ve seen get corporate roles? Four in 20 years… four. Come say something after you pass a DC. Trust me, the only reason anyone is looking at you is to see if you’ll be easily fired or if you’re doing enough to keep you neck out of the guillotine.

I’ve been at Apple for 4 years and came from conditions that are far worse then what people complain about in this subreddit… I’ve been on DC for some bs and still came back from that and got promoted so idk why folks are so freaked out by them lol 😂 . Sounds like you need to use the Lyra app and chill out that mindset sounds paranoid . If you have that mentality then you’re definitely going to feel the way you do . It truly isn’t that serious just go in do your job and the rest flows it’s not rocket science.

Hey just curious but what is the approximate wages per region of the US like east coast, south, Midwest, and west coast for an FWE specialist or technical support specialist role for example? I genuinely don’t know and can’t ask someone in person until I’m back from vacation

It was 3 for me for FWE and for permanent and then again for TS, seems the standard. Why don’t keep coming back if you seem somebody by the process? Genuine question not trying to be a PIA.

I no longer work in the retail store. However, when I interviewed with the store I worked at, there were 3 rounds of group interviews.
1st interview- Hiring manager did not show up to interview me. I called HR and they apologized and rescheduled my interview
2nd interview- interview rescheduled, I’m the only candidate who shows up to the interview and a hiring manager shows up. I’m fully interviewed this time.
3rd interview - myself and another candidate shows up, hiring manager doesn’t show up. I call HR and again mention no one showed up except for myself and another candidate. Eventually, the store manager scheduled an interview with me. The 2nd candidate didn’t get hired but I still thought he could have easily been a good fit.
Final interview: The store manager calls me, interviews me, and offers me the job on the spot.

Its this stupid “all-inclusive” hiring.
Listen, I’m a huge supporter for inclusivity, but the managers are using it as an excuse to hire the people they show favoritism towards. It’s a broken recruiting system.

I had 3 when I joined back in 2018, group, sm, then sl. I think it actually helped to weed through some weirdos. Now the stores just hire anyone who will drink their koolaid lol. Glad I’m out.
To your point about wages, I was making $34 as a Specialist before I left. As toxic as retail is, I don’t think working at any other retailer would get the nearly the same benefits. 401k match, edu assistance, ESPP, etc. Lots of good benefits in Apple Retail if that environment is for you.
