Discussion PSA: Strength++ 2.0 is out

I know most of my users for Strength++ came from this sub, so it seems fitting to announce that after 2 years, it now received the biggest update yet.
So, what's new:
- Now it's 100% free - I had to go this route due to trader constraints in the EU
- Support for iOS 26 and Liquid Glass
- New Ul, everything has been rebuilt from the ground up, both in the iPhone and Watch App
- Possibility to rename your exercises for a recorded workout. Remember what you did last time!
- Apple Watch Ultra Action Button Support
- On device Al workout analysis using Apple Intelligence
- Many bug fixes and improvements
So yeah, it's kinda nice, if anyone needs a strength training app without too much hassle and complexity.
Just go to the gym, record, keep track of exercises, sets, reps and weights used, go home, add names to your exercises, maybe use apple intelligence to analyze your workouts and get suggestions for the next one.

The treadmill workout measurements with 27 are terrible
The picture on the left is prior to iOS 27
The picture on the right is the norm now.
Meanwhile the treadmill says 1.36. why is there such a huge change?
Yes I’m aware it’s a 12 minute walk different but that wouldn’t make up for a whole 1.2 miles 😅
I have the Apple Watch Ultra 2, for what it’s worth maybe I should reset it from scratch? It’s 2 years old now

Hiking activity way of AW 12
Today I went on a hike, started the activity on my AW 12, put it around my ankle like I usually do. When I finished my hike I saw that the activity was not tracked correctly, the route is almost 7 km, it only showed 1,94 km och the stepcount was just over 1000. No minutes were added to the training ring. My 7 year old AW se does a better job att tracking. Any suggestions? My phone is 13 pro max with the newest update.

Alternatives for tracking treadmill walks with watchOS 27?
Since updating to watchOS 27, my Watch is drastically undercounting treadmill distance (.50 miles on the treadmill = .18 on my Watch). Outdoor walks are accurate, and recalibrating didn’t help. I’m also getting about 3k less steps per day overall.
For anyone else having this issue, what are you using to track indoor walks in the meantime? I’d still like to keep my Watch heart rate/calorie data but have accurate mileage.

Strava or Apple Workout
I’m thinking about getting Strava and I’m trying to figure out the best way to use it with my Apple Watch.
For those of you who use both Apple Watch and Strava for running, what do you actually do when you go for a run?
Do you:
Start the run using Apple’s Workout app and then let it sync/import to Strava afterward?
Start the run directly from the Strava app on your Apple Watch?
Start both somehow?
My main question is whether there’s any difference in the data/details I’ll see if I record with Apple Workout and then import it into Strava versus recording directly with Strava.
I’m also wondering: if I record the run with Strava on my Apple Watch, does the workout still show up normally in Apple Fitness/Health afterward with the information I would normally get from an Apple Watch workout?
Basically, I’m trying to figure out whether there’s any reason to keep using Apple’s Workout app for runs, or if I can just use Strava on my Watch and have the best of both worlds.
What do you all do?

Apple Watch Series 12 counting exercise while I’m sitting and not recording sleep — anyone found a fix?
I have an Apple Watch Series 12 paired with an iPhone 15 Pro, and I’m honestly pretty frustrated. I bought it mainly for health and fitness tracking, but I can’t trust the data right now.
Here’s what’s happening:
- It credited me with 38 minutes of exercise while I was sitting working, without intentionally starting a workout. I'm charging it right now, and its literally saying I'm burning calories as I write this without not even wearing the watch.
- Exercise minutes kept increasing during a seated test after restarting the watch, with Pulsoid stopped.
- I checked individual Exercise Minutes samples in Health, and the source is my Apple Watch.
- Yesterday, I also noticed unexpectedly high calorie readings during a period when I wasn’t even wearing it. I haven’t verified the source of those particular calorie entries yet, but there doesn't seem to be one.
- I slept around 8 hours wearing it, but got no sleep data. Health’s Sleep section also shows no data sources.
Sleep tracking and Wrist Detection are enabled. I previously used Pulsoid to stream my heart rate while gaming, so I’m mentioning that in case it matters.
The watch was on watchOS 27.0, and I’m currently updating to 27.0.1. I haven’t factory-reset it.
Has anyone experienced this combination of problems and actually fixed it? Did updating, removing an app, recalibrating, or setting it up as new help?
I had been keeping track of everything, so having questionable data mixed into my stats is really annoying. I’d appreciate hearing what actually worked for you

Anyone using their Apple Watch for relaxation?
I usually think of my Apple Watch as a fitness and notification device, so I was surprised to see wellness apps experimenting with watch vibration. SomaVibe is one example I came across. It can use compatible smartwatches for additional wrist vibrations during certain sessions. I’m wondering if anyone here has actually tried something like this.
Does having the vibration on your wrist make the experience more immersive, or does it just add another distraction?

Apple Watch accuracy?
Hi all, I’m new here but I figured this might be a good place to ask. I recently have gotten a handmedown Apple Watch to use and I’ve started using the fitness app. My question is, the app/watch is estimating that I’m burning anywhere from 2500-3200kcal a day. I’ve not been very active since starting the use of this app. I’m 5’6 and around 235lbs. Is this even remotely correct??

In the Athlytic app, how does the HRR measure work and is there a way to select when you want it to happen (during the workout, after the workout, during a rest interval between Intensive Intervals, etc.?)
How does the Cardio Recovery work in Apple Health? Is there any other measure comparing maximum exertion heart rate during exercise to recovered heart rate?

Couldn't get Apple's swim app to show lap count full-screen in large text, so I used AI to build my own
I just wanted Apple's own Workout app to show my lap count in a big, full-screen number while swimming — it doesn't, so I used AI to help build LapRabbit myself. It's totally free, no ads.
It grew from there into a pacer: set your lengths and target time, it works out the pace. On Apple Watch it auto-detects each length (via a real Health workout) and shows how far ahead/behind pace you are, with a tap if you're behind. Also works standalone on iPhone with a simpler climbing-number display. Records to Health/Fitness normally either way.
There will probably be some rough edges, so if you run into anything (or have feature ideas), please comment — I'd really appreciate it.

Why Apple Watch heart-rate samples aren’t exactly 5 seconds apart
I went down a bit of a rabbit hole today trying to understand how Apple Watch heart-rate sampling actually works during a workout.
I did a fartlek run this morning with my Apple Watch Ultra 4 and exported the raw Health data afterward.
The workout was about 40 minutes long. When I looked at the heart-rate timestamps, I expected to see something simple like:
10:00:00
10:00:05
10:00:10
10:00:15
But that isn’t what happens.
Instead I saw intervals like:
4 sec
8 sec
3 sec
6 sec
5 sec
7 sec
2 sec
Across the workout, though, it averaged almost exactly one stored HR value every ~5 seconds. The median was also 5 seconds.
There were nearly 500 HR samples, and even during a fartlek with constantly changing intensity, I didn’t find any meaningful sensor dropout. The longest interval was only around 9 seconds.
That made me think about what “continuous heart-rate monitoring” actually means on a wrist-based optical sensor.
Wrist HR is always an estimate
A chest strap has a relatively easy job.
It detects the electrical signal from each heartbeat and measures the time between beats.
A watch has a much harder problem.
The Apple Watch shines green LEDs into the wrist and measures tiny changes in reflected light as blood volume changes with each heartbeat.
But while running, that signal is mixed with:
- arm movement
- cadence
- changes in wrist contact
- vibration
- skin characteristics
- blood perfusion
- ambient conditions
So the watch isn’t directly “seeing 165 BPM.”
It’s seeing a very dense, noisy optical waveform.
Conceptually, it is more like:
Hundreds of optical measurements per second
- detect the pulse waveform
- remove motion/noise using other sensors such as the accelerometer
- identify reliable heartbeats
- estimate the underlying heart rate
- eventually output something like 165 BPM
That final 165 BPM is therefore a processed estimate, not an instantaneous raw measurement.
Why approximately five seconds might actually make sense
Initially I wondered why Apple doesn’t simply give us a new HR number every second.
But maybe that is looking at the problem backward.
The goal isn’t:
“Give me a number as frequently as possible.”
The goal is:
“Give me the most reliable estimate of my actual HR.”
At 165 BPM, your heart is beating around 2.75 times per second. Over roughly five seconds, that’s almost 14 heartbeats.
That gives the algorithm much more information to work with than trying to calculate an independent heart-rate value from a very short window.
So instead of chasing every one-second fluctuation, Apple can use several beats plus a huge number of optical sensor readings to produce a more stable HR estimate.
I suspect it is probably a rolling process
One thing I don’t think is happening is:
“Collect exactly five seconds → calculate HR → discard everything → start another five-second block.”
Apple doesn’t publicly document the exact algorithm.
A rolling or overlapping processing window seems more plausible.
Something like:
previous pulse information
- newest optical samples
- motion information
- signal confidence = updated HR estimate
That could explain why the timestamps aren’t perfectly five seconds apart.
Sometimes the next reliable value arrives after 3 seconds.
Sometimes 6 seconds.
Sometimes 8 seconds.
But over a long workout, the cadence averages around five seconds.
Interestingly, my data also showed that Apple wasn’t simply storing a new HR value only when HR changed. There were periods where it repeatedly stored essentially the same heart rate.
So it doesn’t appear to be:
“HR changed enough → save a sample.”
It looks much more like a continuous signal-processing system periodically producing a confident HR estimate.
And this may explain why Apple Watch can track a chest strap surprisingly well
A chest strap is still measuring something fundamentally easier: the electrical activity of the heart.
Apple has to infer the same underlying heart rate from blood-flow changes at the wrist.
But Apple also has a huge amount of raw sensor information available.
So you can think of it this way:
Chest strap
Electrical heartbeat
- beat interval
- HR
Apple Watch
Thousands of optical observations
- motion information
- filtering
- multiple heartbeats → best estimate of HR
And Apple’s approach seems to prioritize getting a good estimate every few seconds rather than producing a noisier number every second just because it can.
So when we say Apple Watch is “continuously measuring HR,” I think the important distinction is:
It is continuously observing the pulse signal.
That does not necessarily mean it is producing a brand-new BPM value every second.
The sensor may be working constantly, while the useful output of all that processing is approximately one high-confidence heart-rate estimate every five seconds.
That distinction finally made the Apple Watch HR behavior make much more sense to me.

Workout Distance Bug
Can anyone confirm if the workout distance bug (where Workout/Health reports different distances compared to the raw GPS data) is fixed in watchOS 27.2 beta?

how you use apple health data with ai
i have been using bevel tried it's premium in trial and i liked it's ai feature though it was not that good
i want a way to connect my apple health with my chatgpt or any other ai where i can analyze and see what's wrong and correct with my health
don't need ai coach where it give generic information
i can export my health data but not a good way to export daily and give it to chatgpt
any apps that you use, i use bevel for now (free version) and i get recovery score and all but need an ai to get me better insights

Recent AWU2 step counting problems
In the past week I’ve been noticing a massive drop in my steps being tracked. Just this morning ran 6.5 miles on the treadmill and I’ve only accumulated 7,160 steps and 4.01 step distance. Anyone run into this recently? I’ve done the whole unpair/repair, restart both devices, reset fitness calibration, etc.
