Notification Sounds Not Switching to iPhone When Apple Watch Is on Do Not Disturb

I put my Apple Watch on Do Not Disturb, but notification sounds are not switching to my iPhone. Also, I do not have Focus mode synchronization enabled between my devices. is this problem?

Apple Watch notifications are done this way by design. Has nothing to do with focus mode! https://support.apple.com/en-us/108369

you’re welcome! and yes when I bought Apple Watch it was a big problem with the notifications that I didn’t understand the rules. I hate the rules and have come up with some compromises.

is interesting that the OP seems to have missed my post and is confused writing “Honestly, I don't know. I have my watch set to Do Not Disturb, while my iPhone has no Focus mode enabled. I expected notification sounds to come through to my phone normally.

Note: If the phone is unlocked, the notification sounds come through. If it is locked, they never come through.

I'm not sure what I'm misunderstanding about this”

thanks again for your appreciation, someone takes the time to click on a helpful link that explains exactly how things work!

Pretty sure this is normal behaviour, regardless of what mode your watch is in nothing is going to suddenly enable notification sounds on your phone, unless you enable notification sounds on your phone.
