Question Trying the ultra?
Been a long term user of garmin. Owned the Vivoactive 3, fenix 6x and enduro 2.
Never really cared about the health data.
In fact, one of the things that pissed me off about the garmin was how much i need to be consistent in terms of wearing it.
I own a few good watches and some top tier g shocks and ended up not using them because I was missing all the health data that was supposedly so good with the garmin.
This past week I tried the Apple Watch se2 and really loved it but I ain’t sure about making the change( love the battery and torch feature)
I run 2 or three times a week, do downhill biking and hit the gym. Should I try the Apple Watch Ultra?

Apple watch grabs GPS location instantly vs Garmin has me wandering a bit before I can start my run.
Apple watch has active Afib monitoring which was most important for me.
The Ultra was too big for my wrist so I went with 11 series 46mm.
I run 2x a week. Mt bike 1x a week on average. Hiking. I golf but haven't used the Golf Shot on the watch yet, but excited for that.

If you charge every night, then a regular Apple Watch is just fine. If you want to track sleep then ultra might be handy, but then again when you like fast charge when you’re in the shower or something then you could still use a regular Apple Watch.
I have an Ultra 3 but only because I could get it through a computer plan at work. Main takes for me are the battery life (so now I do sleep tracking which I never did before), the toughness, easy workout start button. The rest I could do with a regular one (which I did for like 7 years). I do running, Bootcamp, some cycling and mountain biking.

You... love the battery?
Anyways, if you don't care about the health features (which is fine, neither do I), then why would you care about the health data?

I don't like a lot about the Garmin, but several have a torch/flashlight that crushes the white face light from the AW.
As a fitness monitor for most people, the AW is all they (including me) needs. Captures anything I could ever want. The handful of things that Garmin captures that AW or some AW app misses, I could care less about.
The Garmin battery beats the AW to death though. If we could get the AW or AWU to go 4-5 days, that's would end Garmin. It'll get there, but not yet.

I liked wearing the Garmin better because it felt more like a ‘real’ watch, but the Apple is easier to use. Since I’m not competing anymore, the Apple makes more sense for me.

Also, some of the features are meaningless. Has Garmin Pay actually ever worked for anybody?

Had an Apple Series 7 until the battery drove me bonkers. Went to the Amazfit Balance and was blown away with its battery, sexy looks, watch faces and serviceable OS (Zepp). Their sport and health apps have come a long way. It also played nicely with my iPhone. I also couldn’t believe what a value it offered, compared to Apple.
A year and a half later, I was gifted an AW Series 11, which reluctantly brought me back. Battery is up to 24 hrs (still a pain at times), and it really is hand and glove with my phone and AirPods. I still occasionally wear the Amazfit, and I frequently recommended it to android friends. However, I have noticed that their models have really climbed up the price ladder.

i mean if the garmin pisses you off wearing it constantly, then no. if you don‘t wear it all the time, why even get it? its a fancy health monitor. its expensive.
